EU will continue talking to Arafat, Solana tells Israel
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1504&ncid=1504&e=2&u=/afp/20030831/ts_afp/mideast_eu_030831144933

TEL AVIV (AFP) - European Union (news - web sites) foreign policy chief Javier Solana rejected demands by Israel to follow the Unites States' example and sever contacts with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat (news - web sites).

"We will continue contacts with Palestinians and the Palestinian president," Solana said after talks here with Israel's Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom.

"We respect any decision by a democratic country but one has to respect our position that has not changed."

Israel has been urging the EU to follow the lead of the United States and cut off all ties with Arafat, whom it accuses of seeking to undermine the peace process and his moderate prime minister Mahmud Abbas.

3. One cheer for the EU
Edited on Sun Aug-31-03 11:32 AM by tinnypriv

Two cheers if they back that up with actually enforcing legislation and stopping the import of products produced in the Occupied Territories.

Three cheers if they stop playing the "see who can trade the most with Israel" game.

This is total lip-gloss.
