Hurricane Fabian Packing 140 Mph Winds
Hurricane Fabian churned in the Atlantic packing powerful winds Monday but meteorologists said it was too early to predict whether it would pose any threat to the United States.

In Texas, meanwhile, remnants of Tropical Storm Grace moved steadily northward after the weak storm blew into the state, promising a wet end and the possibility of flooding for the Labor Day Weekend.

Fabian was maintaining sustained winds of 140 mph, making the storm a dangerous Category 4 hurricane. The hurricane was located about 400 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands by 5 a.m. EDT - several days from any potential landfall.

Forecasters predicted it would gradually turn toward the west-northwest during the next day and pass well north of the Northern Leeward Islands.

9. Thanks! added to my favorites list.
Here's a few I check regularly:

EXCELLENT, comprehensive, extensive, good graphics and links, basically all around good info:
http://www.flhurricane.com/

'StormCARIB is all about the Caribbean. Here you can find information, weather discussions and local reports regarding tropical systems threatening the Caribbean islands. A central part of this website is the network of special local hurricane correspondents, living on the islands, who will report, when need be, on how it looks and feels like around them. Scroll down for the local updates and discussions.'

Has anyone seen this?
found it buried in my 'Weather favorites':

"Riviera Beach, FL, based company Dyn-O-Mat continues in its' successful mission to protect humanity worldwide from hurricanes and typhoons, not just in lives and dollars but in long term environmental damage that results from every major storm!

Last summer, Dyn-O-Mat wiped a building cell off Doppler radar and on June 4, 2002, at the Melbourne International Airport, Dyn-O-Mat will showcase the AeroGroup fleet of planes they will be using when they take aim at their biggest target to date in a coordinated flight late July or early August. There will be formation flights with equipment tests by the air-team, along with opportunity for questions on the efforts to, at best, implode a hurricane; at worst, substantially reduce the storms strength, primary cause of well documented damage, death and destruction when the storms strike land."

4. Catagory 4, already?
That is huge and is going to get even bigger. I don't know if they can accurately predict what a storm this big will do.

Keep in mind that the water in the Atlantic has been unusually cold this year. I've lived in Florida for 25 years, and this is the only summer I've ever seen, where the water was too cold for me to go in the ocean. That could effect this storm in an unpredictable way.

For those of living in the south, it will be a good idea to keep on eye on this one. Hopefully, it will just turn north and not make landfall in the US. If it does, anybody got a place to crash, lets say in OH?

12. That's my favorite weather site
www.wunderground.com ... lots of searchable functions and if you're an amateur photographer you can upload pictures in there and search cool other shots other amateurs have taken. There's literally thousands of pictures in dozens of weather-related categories.

5. this sonofabitch is gonna smack NC - guaranteed
right around Wilmington, and it'll travel at least 200 miles inland and wreck my new house with the multiple tornadoes it spawns.

The shortbus prediction is in. Prove me wrong, weather gawds.

south of 20N for much longer, I would start to worry, especially if it is still south of there after passing 60W, but I think (hope) it will swing more north, and, if/when it does, it may miss the coast entirely and stay out to sea. There is a front coming down from Canada that will push it out to sea, if it starts turning north soon enough. We'll just have to wait and see. Ah, September is always such an exciting time of year in the south.

10. Not to worry
It won't wreck your new house because we are all coming to your pool party the end of the month for Will. Right? So it CAN'T happen. Besides, Fabian? Do you really hear yourself saying 10 years from now: "Well, Fabian ruined the grotto."? Nah.

Besides, we haven't done all the work on our house yet - no more hurricanes will hit until we are finished or at least until we get the hardwood floors in (2-3 years tops).
:D

13. Possible idea for Daily Show with Jon Stewart?
Fabian is really a terrorist plot to thwart celebrations, ERRRRRRR, memorials of 9/11 next Thursday.

I can see his roving reporter (Ed Helms, Mo Rocca, etc.) really getting into that.
