(October 21, 2004) - - Hundreds of layoffs loom for Erie County workers if a budget crisis isn't solved soon.

Erie County Executive Joel Giambra says he'll layoff close to a thousand employees, including ten of his staff positions, if Albany doesn't approve a one cent increase in sales tax.

Democrat Lynn Marinelli says any cuts should include Giambra's driver.

my parents live in Erie County, and it's already pretty austere. The city (Buffalo) is worse off. Especially the perpetually underfunded schools.
