Iraqi Council Names Cabinet to Take Over From Americans......
Iraqi Council Names Cabinet to Take Over From Americans

By DEXTER FILKINS The New York Times

BAGHDAD, Iraq (news - web sites), Sept. 1 The Iraqi Governing Council named a 25-member cabinet today that is intended to take over the day-to-day running of the government from the Americans.

It was probably the most important action the council has taken since it was formed by the Americans in July. It is part of the broader and longer-range goal of putting Iraqis in charge of running the country, and giving Americans a less visible role.

This would make sense if it were not for the Americans that put this "hand selected" group in power.

Note how the US wants to distance itseld from AWOL's "quagmire"...

2. AWOL=GWB
and his quagmire is Iraq, obviously (and, arguably, Afghanistan, although not nearly as many Americans are dying there daily, it's still a situation with no end in sight).

The AWOL nickname is in reference to Junior's apparent absence from his base for (at least) the last year of his cushy position in the Texas Air National Guard. You know, the position that Poppy's connection's secured for Junior while the rest of the plebes of similar status (unmarried, no kids, out of school, etc.) went off to risk their lives serving their country in Vietnam.

6. The article you cite is dated prior to this good news about the IGC.
I hope the troubles over there improve, and a quagmire is averted.

7. Unfortunately they have not yet been held. I am optomistic that they
will happen.

12. If and when there are elections in Iraq the person who wins will not...
...be a friend of America like Hussein was for so many years. And that election will be the last one. Theocracies are not good for America. Look at Iran. That is what there will be in Iraq. Does that sound good to you?

13. No it does not. You may be right about the outcome, but I hope you
are wrong.
