Bill Clinton is to rejoin the US presidential campaign for Senator John Kerry six weeks after having a major heart bypass operation.
The former American president said doctors had told him not to over-exert himself, but that he wanted to campaign for Mr Kerry because the election has "profound" importance.
Mr Clinton will appear with Mr Kerry at a rally in Philadelphia today in the hope that he can help win the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania for the Democrats in next week's poll.
The most recent polls show that Mr Kerry is virtually neck-and-neck with President George W Bush having made up a four-point difference from last week.
