New Jersey: Demonstration against white supremacist Hal Turner

A rally will be held outside the home of racist radio talk-show host Hal Turner in response to the call for white supremacists to counter the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride that will be in Liberty State Park next month.
From September 20 - October 4, 2003 The Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride will set out from nine major U.S. cities and cross the country in buses in an effort to draw attention to undocumented immigrants and their calls to make a clearer path to citizenship. Inspired by the Freedom Rides of the Civil Rights Movement, they will converge on Washington, D.C. to meet with members of Congress and then travel to Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ October 3, and then Flushing Meadows Park, Queens, New York for a mass rally on October 4, 2003.
Turner made the announcement on his short-wave radio show on Monday evening that he wishes to counter the event when it arrives at Liberty State Park, saying that he wants his listeners to be there at Noon on Oct. 3, a few hours before the Freedom Ride arrives at the Park. He said that he would prefer to counter-demonstrate at Liberty State Park rather than at the following day's event at Flushing Meadows, Queens because he felt Flushing would be hostile to whites, particularly those whites that would counter this rally. Ironically, Turner lives in a Hispanic neighborhood, and even has Hispanic neighbors in his condo.
Next Saturday's rally will be in response to Turner and his continued antagonism against people of color. "We need to let people like Turner know that their brand of hate will not be tolerated in this society anymore," One People's Project Spokesperson Daryle Lamont Jenkins said Monday evening. "This garbage from him especially has gone on long enough" (snip/...)
