As a Presidential candidate, Senator Hillary Clinton attracts more Democratic votes than other contenders but still trails President Bush 48% to 41%.
If the Democrats nominate Senator John Kerry, the President leads 45% to 36%. Against Vermont Governor Howard Dean, Bush leads 45% to 34%.

The national telephone survey of 1,499 Likely voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports August 29-September 1, 2003. Margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Rasmussen Reports measures the economic confidence of consumers and investors on a daily basis. As part of this process, we measure, employment, job satisfaction, interest rates, and more.

While Bush leads individual Democrats, his overall poll numbers have slipped. Against a generic Democrat, the President is now tied, 42% to 42%. A month ago, the President led 44% to 41% against a generic Democrat.

The President has lost ground compared to Kerry and Dean since the end of July.

I'm playing by the DU rules and posting the headline - but I think the big news is even though a lot of Americans are still brain-dead as to who is running for the Democrats, that whistle-ass is losing ground to Kerry and Dean. So when will the media catch on this idiot is very beatable.

and I'm glad to see Bush's leads over Kerry and Dean are 9 and 11 points, respectively. Dean was behind in the high teens not long ago. And these numbers mirror Zogby, who also polls likely voters. I believe he had Kery down by 9 and Dean down by 10. (BTW, I know she's not running but I still think it's pretty cool Hillary only trails by 7, and the other guys are close behind.)

I question any presidential poll that has Hillary Clinton in it since she's said time and time again she's not running in 2004. This is probably some poll from a right-wing think tank to rouse neo-con supporters to give more money trying to say "Look Hillary could get 41% of the vote against Bush).

But, frankly, that kind of worries me, too. I'm afraid they'll interpret that reality as their need to boost him up even more.

What I would like to see, to ensure that * is sent packing in '04 is for a group like MoveOn to organize neighborhood/community demonstrations in favor of whoever is the Dem candidate. It would have a HUGE impact if, in communities all across the US, at least once a week, 20-30 people (fewer or more depending on size of town) would stand on a prominent street corner for half an hour with the campaign signs of DEM NOMINEE HERE.

I find that people are very impressed that anyone "like them" would stand on a street corner for anything. They automatically think more about the subject when confronted with the reality that their neighbors care enough to take a very public stand on it. I think it's an interesting opportunity to reclaim our "public commons," stolen by the big media, in the public debate.
