MIAMI -- A Miami couple held in Cuban since April, accused of spying, returned home Tuesday.
Arcel and Maria Cardoso and their daughters were detained at Havana International Airport April 8 as they tried to return to Miami after visiting their hometown of Camaguey. The daughters, ages 7 and 15, were released two weeks later.
Cuba accused the couple, who are permanent U.S. residents, of espionage after airport security agents found an anti-Castro letter in Maria Cardosa's bra as she tried to board the flight home in April. (snip)
(snip) Maria Cardosa said her brother had asked her to bring a letter to Miami and she agreed, hiding it in her bra. She said she didn't read it.
"I didn't want to know about the letter because it was political," she said.
As she passed through metal detectors at the airport, she said metal buttons on her clothing triggered a search of her upper body and the letter was discovered. (snip/...)
