Bush to 'ramp up' P.R. on Iraq
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 11:28 AM by rmpalmer
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/09/03/sprj.nilaw.bush/index.html

President Bush told Republican congressional leaders Wednesday he will mount a "very aggressive" campaign to explain to the American people the U.S. mission in post-Saddam Iraq, a senior GOP leadership aide said.

Bush also said he will seek supplemental funding from Congress for rebuilding Iraq. Although details weren't provided, the request is expected to be in the tens of billions of dollars.

Some lawmakers, including House Speaker Dennis Hastert of Illinois, urged the White House to submit its request as soon as possible, said another GOP aide.

<snip>

"The president was told to ask for as much as he may need for the foreseeable future," said the GOP source, "whatever it is, ask for it now, and make sure you can justify it."

1. One can only hope
that to justify it means to tell the American people exactly where their money is going. Not only are we paying for it we are losing needed services to pay for it. I want to know who this money is going to, not some kind of vague analysis of what it will be for. Anyone want to bet whose pockets are being lined?

3. Notice it's PR efforts not the truth
According to the GOP aide, the president said the White House will "seriously ramp up the public relations effort" to counter Democratic criticism of the administration's Iraq policy.

7. New and improved! Isn't that amazing? Ron Popiel's still around, ya know
I just hope it's slick and burnished with impeccable production values so clips of it can be intercut with gritty hand-held reality shots in response.

8. So let me get this straight ...
The pResident lies to the American people to go to war. Too many lies to list. Eminent WMD threat is the big one.
America attacks and occupies Iraq despite record protests worldwide (and no UN mandate). Bringing absolute chaos.
Not even a single shred of evidence has been found to support the claim that Iraq had WMD (or even a program).
Americans begin to realize that the war was WRONG, and begin to question AWOLs leadership.
pResident AWOL is now begging the UN to come in to clean up the mess we made (insisting US remains in command).

Now pResident AWOL feels the need to launch a "new" campaign to convince the American People that his decision to go to war in the first place was correct.

Doesn't he realize that his loss support comes from the reality that we see after the war, did not match the BULLSHIT that the AWOL adminstration used to first convince Americans to support the war.

What can this corrupt peice of SHIT possibly say now that would swing the doubter back into lockstep allegence.
Remember before the war, how the administration keep claiming that they would soon release the evidence that proves Iraq has WMD. Well, we are still waiting. We have had absolutley unfettered acces to the entire country, and still not a single shred of evidence.

This is absolutely incredible. Fool me once ... er ... uhm ... oh never mind.

Cheers
Drifter

9. Will junior talk about Blair
and how sucessful they were in convincing the UK folks of WMD? Will he talk about why he wants to screw the American
worker by eliminating overtime pay?

junior will put the blame on congress. junior will tell us that things would go smooth, only if congress would work with 'em
instead of against 'em!

He'll blame Clinton for this mess.

10. I hope nobody in the Puke caucus had the bad taste
To point out to His Imperial Chimpiness that while the whole Iraq scenario was getting flushed down the crapper, he was off for a whole month at his pig farm. Because that would have been in really bad taste for someone to bring up.

12. PR: The Pretzel-Dunce's latest weapon of mass destruction
More money for him and his campaign-contributing friends, and more PR for the rest of us--yeah, that makes sense. And he has a lapdog media to help him stay "on message!"

14. He should have listened to Blix and not Beers
The smirky strategy is to pursue his extremist ideological agenda, ignore the facts on the ground, and then attempt to "sell it" with propaganda produced by sophisticated PR campaigns. Mr Rove hired one of Madison Ave biggest guns, Charlotte Beers, to "sell" the war to the American people, to "sell" the charms of American occupation to Iraqi citizens.

Whether on national security, or the economy, or the environment, His Chimperial Highness *chooses* to ignore any fact that does not support his radical agenda, and hopes the American Sheeple are stupid enough to believe the Tooth Fairy fantasies his hired shills, who have experience only in making Toothpaste and Antiperspirants seem heroic, and have no understanding of foreign nations or public policy.

WAY TO GO, SMIRK! His sole concern is using deception to advance his radical agenda. Anyone think he is going to rethink his policy assumptions as we watch our middle class disappear, our people's economic security evaporate, the Middle East conflagarate into regional warfare, America's prestige lost, and American security disappear? HELL NO! Instead, pay someone, or order someone, to make a movie or stage an event, that makes you look like a hero. Get everyone to shut their eyes and repeat after you "I'm upbeat! Everything is going GREAT!"

Well, I think we all expect some degree of fudging and equivocation from our leaders, but smirky has taken this to near historic levels. His administration reminds me less of any in American History, but rather the Cults of Personality that we saw arise in Fascist Italy, Stalinist Russia, and Cultural Revolution China.

The odd this is that the more they ramp it up the worse it seems to be doing.
