Schwarzenegger: Some "Oui" Statements Untrue

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- California gubernatorial hopeful Arnold Schwarzenegger said some statements he made to a men's magazine in 1977 were made up to promote a movie.

"I made statements that were crazy, statements that -- a lot of them were not true and just exaggerated situations," he told KNBC-TV in Los Angeles. "I knew they would get headlines. We were promoting bodybuilding, we were promoting (the 1976 documentary) 'Pumping Iron.'"

Schwarzenegger spokesman Sean Walsh denied the new statement conflicts with earlier accounts.

"Arnold has conducted probably thousands of interviews over his bodybuilding, entertainment and now political careers," he said.

"You don't remember every interview. Just as a reporter who writes thousands of stories over the years doesn't remember every interview and every paragraph he's written."

Maybe he can get away with this in Hollywood, but if he wants to enter politics, he'd damned well better remember every word he utters.

so Arnie admits that he lied and exaggerated to promote a film. why should we believe that he wouldn't lie and exaggerate to promote his run for governor? he seems to think it is acceptable behavior.
