U.S. glosses over Iraq-Turkey dispute
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N04282620.htm

WASHINGTON, Sept 4 (Reuters) - The United States glossed over a dispute between its Iraqi and Turkish allies on Thursday, saying it was confident it could find a solution if Turkey offered to contribute troops to deploy in Iraq.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, a Kurd, said on Thursday that neighboring states such as Turkey should not send troops because of possible meddling in Iraqi affairs.

The United States, keen for allies to share the burden of occupying Iraq, has been pressing Turkey to contribute, despite Iraqi Kurdish sensitivities about a Turkish presence.

U.S. State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said the United States attached much weight to the views of the Iraqi cabinet, which is part of the U.S.-picked Governing Council.

3. how stupid..
Let the Turk's come in and the Kurds would start working for Saddam himself if he is still out there against them.

5. Why work with Saddam? They've fought for themselves ...
against Saddam, against the Turks, against Iranians, against centuries of domination.

But remember: the Kurds are the U.S.'s allies against Saddam. The Turks are U.S. Nato allies. Saddam Hussein is a U.S. ally -- oops, out of date. Osama bin Ladin is a U.S. ally -- oops, out of date.

Arrgh!

4. Confident it could find a solution.
What: genocide against the Kurds? Been there, done that, in Iraq, and in Turkey.

Like Richard the Lionheart solved the conflict over who would control Jerusalem? Accepted control by the Kurd Salidan.

Like Britain resolved the conflict over who would control the Kurdish remnants of the Ottoman Empire? Carved them up into several different 'countties,' in which the Kurds have been resistance fighters ever since.

Or simply resolve it like the Dubya goons have resolved all of the problems of Iraq? LOL!

7. This is the best opportunity the Kurd's have had...
...for an independent 'Kurdistan' in hundreds of years

I don't think they are planning on letting it slip away.

I think in a de-facto sense, an independent Kurdistan has existed since the US invasion.
