Advisory: Al Qaeda planning new U.S. attacks (New Fall Season!)
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A Department of Homeland Security advisory issued Thursday warns that al Qaeda is working on plans to hijack airliners flying between international points that pass near or over the continental United States.

A Department of Homeland Security official said most of the flights fitting this description originate in Canada, and that U.S. officials have been working with Canada over the past month to ensure it is improving screening and other security measures.

One government official noted, however, the United States has no authority to require security measures of non-U.S. carriers whose flights originate outside the United States.

The advisory was issued because of concerns about the coming second anniversary of the September 11 attacks, a recent uptick in intelligence information, and threats to aviation that continued through the summer

5. Yawn
Oh, I'm so frightened.:scared:

:boring:
:boring:

You don't have to be a jeenius to figure out that this is bullshit.

No real terrorist will attack a plane - it's been done, it's so ...
2001. Way out of fashion.

And if you want to create some terror, you'll do something else. You'll get away with it and they'll never catch you.

7. hijackings by terrorists ARE NOT going to happen.
Probably not for a very long time, if ever again. At least not on a plane with more than a handful of people aboard. Not too many people are going to sit quietly in their seats, even if threatened with death, because allowing them to gain control has to be considered certain death. And even if by some incredible feat, the terrorists are able to fend off and kill ALL the passengers and non-cockpit crew- they ARE NOT going to be able to get in the cockpit in order to gain control of the aircraft...at least not before the pilot and/or co-pilot and/or navigator (each of whom may or may not be armed) has had a chance to alert authorities to the situation.

It wouldn't make sense for AlQueada to try another hijacking, and as we have seen, these guys are anything but totally stupid.

A more likely scenario would be to shoot down a plane with a shoulder fired missile, or blow it up(down?) with a bomb smuggled in the cargo hold.

other plane related possibilities-

somehow stowing away and taking control of a cargo plane in flight(think the FedEx plane Tom Hanks was on in "CastAway").

using a large radio-control model loaded with explosives to hit a plane taking off/landing.

using a small private plane packed with explosives and/or toxins as a "kamikaze" flight into a building, mall, school, nuke plant, etc...

launching a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor from the AlQueada carrier task force currently on station somewhere in the Pacific.

12. They're way too smart to try the same old trick again.
9-11 was the work of extremely patient, meticulous, disciplined, observant people who detected a weakness and exploited it to the utmost.

28. I doubt there were any 'terrorists' involved except the Bush Crime Family
None of their fables about what happened on 9-11 make any sense at all. You should stop believing those fairy tales.

11. Just remember Mr. Bush...
If there is another attack, it will be nobody's fault but your own. You had a Congress and a country that bent over backwords to do everything you asked them to do. There is no Bill Clinton to blame anymore. This is now your government, your administration and as such, you bear full responsibility for absolutely everything that happens.

Bush* and company will take credit for stopping the attacks that weren't going to happen in the first place. I feel so much safer now!

The Arizona Republic said they were going to try to poison us with nicotine and potatoes. It didn't say anything about hijacking! Seems a person can't figure out what to be frightened of!

24. Falling poll numbers are behind this.
I also think that his war on terror is not working as much anymore, the economy is in the tank, better have a terror alert. Have not had one in awhile. Iraq is not going well, Afghanastan is heating up again.

<SNIP>
The advisory says that arrests of key al Qaeda members over the past several months "may have delayed or even disrupted some plans," but a Homeland Security official would not provide any details. The official did say that interrogations of those detainees produced some of the information contained in the advisory. Intercepted communications and materials seized in raids of al Qaeda safe houses were other sources of the intelligence, the official said.

May have delayed the attacks, but they won't provide any details. Snipe hunt!! The unseen enemy, a war with no defined enemy, be afraid be very afraid.

Among the sorts of soft targets mentioned in operational plans are apartment complexes, gas stations and restaurants.

Looks like another reason to raise the price of gas. Have to offset the possible loss of revenue in the future. If they blow up a few resturants make sure it is a right wing supporter like Carls jr./Hardees.

product line is being rolled out right on schedule. I really fail to see how this works for them this time though, won't it just point out what a joke all of their efforts have been (not to mention their "war" for oil in Iraq).

They have made reasonable people cynical about the threat of terrorism, thus making a dangerous situation worse.

27. Is it the al Qaeda member named GW Bush?
They are going to have to be damn careful this time when they stage a 'terrorist' attack. When Bush did 9-11 the vast majority were very naive about the Crime Family. Many have woken up.
