U.S. Pressed to Interdict Afghan Drugs (Afghan heroin funding terrorists)

KABUL, Afghanistan - U.N. and Afghan officials have called for U.S.-led coalition forces to help combat the booming drug trade that profits both warlords with links to the government and terror groups fighting against it.

Afghanistan is the world's largest producer of opium, the raw material of heroin, and last year accounted for about three quarters of the global supply.

Production increased dramatically after the fall of the hardline Taliban regime, which had successfully banned cultivation of opium poppies.

3. But what about the drug lords on our team?
I believe one of the main reasons the US was able to move into Afghanistan was because of the implication that the US would allow the poppy business to flourish and everybody, well the drug thugs would be happy. However if the US cracks down on the poppy business even more Afghanies are going to be without money and work which is the same thing as a terrorist in Bush language.

Bet the US military makes like they are encouraging the war on drugs but it will be token at best, a few TV spots and simple busts. Money speaks louder than addiction pains so the drug business will keep rolling...
