There are some folks who feel that those who believe negotiation, compromise and cooperation are mankind's only hope for lasting peace are foolish if not downright crazy. So it was when such peace advocates as Jesus, Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. were killed. So it has been throughout humanity's bloody history.
It takes courage to stand up for principles that are contrary to the norm. To those too timid to ever swim against the current, anyone who does so may seem odd.
The present controversial "pre-emptive" occupation of Iraq has required much soul searching on the parts of citizens who love America but question the wisdom of the war. Cautious souls facing this dilemma have kept silent. Others have felt duty-bound, sometimes at personal cost, to speak out.
