What's Hannity worth?
Alas, Philadelphia has fallen. You should see the line-up on this wonderful stattion. All the major league fuckwads plus some local jitbags.

WPHT PAYS ZIP FOR HIS RADIO PROGRAM

NOW THAT HE'S squatting in WPHT/1210-AM's 3-6 p.m. slot, is it fair to ask what right-winger Sean Hannity is worth?

Nuttin', honey.

WPHT is not paying ABC Radio Networks for rights to air the show, and is actually receiving a bribe... I mean, a stipend, from ABC to put it out there. The money is designated for promotional and advertising purposes.

Station honcho Sil Scaglione said the money is "significant," without putting a price tag on it. (I've heard it could be as much as $500,000.) He'll spend the dough on magazines and billboards.

Philadelphia was important to ABC, Sil says, because it was the only Top Ten market not to carry the show daily. "They were willing to spend some money to help Sean and help the radio station."

Here's a secret radioheads know, but many of you don't: Most of the syndicated radio programs you hear are the result of what's called barter.

1. I remember that they had to PAY stations to pick up ORielly's
show when it first went on the air - I think it was also reported at $500,000 per station. Interesting to see that this is widespread. So much for the idea that it is the marketplace... and that if there were a demand for liberal talkshows that stations would carry them...

2. This is radio now.
Go to IEAmerica. They have what is called a clock. Click on it and you will see the local ads, the program, and the network ads. Barter is radio today. Hey,why pay a local talent when you can get a syndicated program with local spots. There are only a few stations that have real people and programing. KGO(ABC)in SF is an exception(#1 for 30 yrs.)

Drudge who hates O'Reily outed him a year ago. Bill pays $300,000 to be in the NYC market.

And that's why radio mostly sucks.
