"Ignorance may be bliss, but it's also dangerous"
LEONARD PITTS
lpitts@herald.com

Three weeks later, I'm still waiting for a good explanation of what Jeff Gannon was doing in the White House. And for you to be upset about it.

Gannon is the fellow who made himself memorable during last month's presidential news conference by asking about Democratic pessimism regarding the nation's economy..........

(SNIP)

My problem is that he speaks for an administration with a long record of manipulating truth and propagandizing the public.

So where is our outrage? Frankly, the only thing more galling than the brazenness with which the White House abrogates the public's right to know is the sheep-like docility with which we accept it, with which we become complicitous in our own hoodwinking......

This is a great article!
Worth signing up at the heard.com to read it.
This was published in the Tennessee Paper also. (TN)

1. You would think that the WH press corps would...
... wonder who this guy was in their midst (for two years!). Must have left him alone out of professional courtesy....

4. I have wondered that myself...
I doubt it was professional courtesy. How many "professionals" are left in the WH press corps anyway? Perhaps every last one of them is paid off to shut up. Except Helen of course. :)

2. I'm upset.
But who the fuck am *I*?

When you look in "The Lamb's Book of Life" (AKA The RNC Donation database) I'm not there.

I can be so upset that I can only shit, but not piss, I can be so upset that green boils are popping up on my face, I can be SOOOO upset that all I can do when I try to speak is splutter and shriek...

And it don't mean a gawd-damn thing, because I'm just a little fucking Liberal nobody, and oh, by the way, thanks for the entertainment. Do the "spazz" act often?

But if "Ignorance is Bliss", then I live in one happy fucking country, don't I?

7. Good article, but...
with WhatsHisFace in office, propaganda rules the day & there are too many easily influenced non-thinkers out there believing everything they hear on tv. In this respect, the media is to blame for all those rabid defenders of this corrupt administration.

When is the media going to get over its intimidation & get outraged?

Frankly, the only thing more galling than the brazenness with which the White House abrogates the public's right to know is the sheep-like docility with which we accept it, with which we become complicitous in our own hoodwinking.

When the history of this era is written, people will wonder why we didn't challenge its excesses, why we didn't know the things we should have.

If you're still around, remember the uproar you do not hear right this moment and tell them the truth.

Ignorance was easier.

Short of writing multiples of letters to our congresspeople, expressing our disgust through phone calls to our congresspeople, & signing online petitions, how do we fight a propaganda machine? It was revealed in another thread that the Repugs have phone banks that manipulate the media's news slant to their favor; that some of the phone banks are actually run by only a couple of people, yet the multiple calls that they generate give the impression the calls are being made by thousands of Repugs.

I see a big problem when the media allows these manipulative phone calls/letters to dictate that they follow a particular view, or slant, in reporting the news.

Truth is the truth. Right is right; wrong is wrong. When did that become difficult in reporting the news?
