Walter Cronkite: Latest Iraq casualty: Our national prestige
In Friday's Philadelphia Inquirer:

...snip...

We are in trouble, and the world knows it. We are going hat in hand as we seek means to cut our losses in the Iraq debacle. We are pleading for help now from those very same Security Council nations that we belittled before.

No matter what they do with our new request, those nations are going to wear a wry, "I told you so" smile as they listen to our appeal. This might be about as embarrassing a position as this nation has ever suffered in international affairs.

No matter how gloriously the President paints our Iraq invasion as a mission to save the world from terrorism, there is no disguising the fact that in our desperate bid for help, we are dining on a massive helping of crow.

2. As Hans Blix remarked about the Bush gang-
They are bastards.

They are now lying to the American people, saying that they wanted to work with the UN all along.

Do they think we and the rest of the world are stupid? Apparently so...and I'm sure there are some people stupid enough to believe this crap from Rumsfield and Powell...but they 're more likely to be Americans than anyone else.

Actually, when the Supreme Court installed Jr. as prez, the rest of the world's opinion of this country dropped drastically.

Since the Bush gang actions since 9-11, Europeans and Americans alike see this as a fascist regime, people who never believed that would ever happen before these crooks and killers took power.

3. "If I've lost Walter Cronkite, I've lost Middle America."
So said LBJ.

Iraq is a faster, lighter Vietnam. Maybe the lesson will sink in this time.

4. The Most Respected Man in America.
This is the honor we oldsters have always given to Mr.Cronkite. He tells the truth. The last of the honest journalist. I don;'t think the younger generation even knows who this man is, so it is doubtful that this column of his will make any difference at all to the brain dead and those who do not want to know the truth.
What a great man.....he has held this country together in many times of crisis, especially, I will never forget when Kennedy was shot. It was Walter who calmed the country.

:loveya:
