The view from abroad: "Media firestorm in America" by Sylvia Mayuga

Excerpt from a concise summary of "Gannongate" from a mainstream Filipino news website:

(Think we should expect more from the MSM here as regards this big fat white elephant in the room? Or is that a totally lost cause?)

-----------------

IT WAS one of those interesting sequences of Web ÒeventsÓ that explode into scandal, and global insight, quicker than you can say, Òannual Munich security conference on the second week of February.Ó

No sooner had the INQ7.net website posted an Agence France-Presse report on that conference, at which US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld Òmounted a passionate argument for his conviction that the Internet and other modern means of communication have magnified the value of the most powerful weapon of all: informationÓ -- than up came proof, Made in the USA.

"Bloggers and hackers and chat rooms! E-mails and cell phones with global reach! It alters how you have to behave ... it adds a level of complexity to warfare in the 21st century," Rumsfeld said, adding 24-hour cable TV to the list of info avenues that Òfundamentally alter global security concerns.Ó

That would not remain an isolated factoid for long, not with my old friend using the same infotech tools from Democrat trenches in situ, dead-aimed at helping to replace George W. Bush, possibly with Al Gore, in the White House by 2008, if not sooner.

1. 24-hour cable TV to the list of info avenues that fundamentally
alter global security concerns.

In other words it makes it more difficult for us to control the dissemenation of information and there is still the risk of truth getting out to the public.

2. The article doesn't mention the connections to Plame, Rather,...
...the fact that "Gannon" knew about the invasion of Iraq at least 4 hours before anyone else outside the blivet** cartel loop, and his involvement in Daschle's defeat. Other indications that "Gannon" has access to the innermost loop of the neocon ruling set are surfacing every day. The fact that he was passed EVERY DAY with a temporary newspass shows clearly that whoever is protecting and manipulating him KNEW he would never pass a security clearance.

It will be interesting to see the foreign headlines when these things, which are more important than the sex angle -- except for the likely possibility of blackmailing of closeted gays in positions of inluence to coerce their support .

I do wonder if Rumsfeld is running up to a campaign to suppress the free internet. I do think it will be attacked and I believe we need to prepare for it:
