Great idea...Kofi Annan suggests using 1958 Iraq Constitution
Annan Seeks Mandate on Iraq
Expanded U.N. Role Linked to Clear Tasks and Better Security

snip...

He suggested to representatives of the 10 non-permanent members of the council Wednesday that some Iraqi leaders had suggested that the revival of a 1958 Iraqi constitution could jump-start the constitutional process.

(I think that's a wonderful idea. What I DON'T understand is why Bush is going to the UN without a proposal for a resolution. It seem like such a waste.)

snip...

The United States may delay its introduction of a new resolution this week out of concern that, while it would easily be adopted, it would not attract greater international financial and military support for the pacification and reconstruction of Iraq, U.N. diplomats said. (Why not?)

snip...

(Accepting the 1958 Constitution would be a great beginning, and we could set up a quick timetable and get our guys out of there. Guess Bremer just won't go for that, huh?)

1. Brilliant.
But I am sure the GOP will come up with a talking point to discredit it.

3. That would save
a great deal of time, effort and sheer aggravation...enormous amounts actually as anyone who has ever sat on a committee to write a charter, constitution, mission statement etc knows!

He said we should just give them our constitution...we aren't using it.
