A very nice LTTE I saw in today's Boston Globe

Our country's founders, enlightened thinkers, saw in their burgeoning democracy the danger that the masses might be coerced and controlled by a minority. They knew that the best antidote to this was to make certain that every citizen had access to an education, rendering us free to make educated decisions, especially about our own governance. Jacoby's idea of a free-market education system would insure a governmental system based on class structure, in which those who could afford quality education would rule over those who could not. It could only mean the destruction of our democratic system.
