Waiting for Mr. Kay- WaPo Editorial
<http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A61382-2003Sep24.html>

snip So when can we expect to hear from Mr. Kay? There, it seems, is the catch. Asked this question at a briefing on Monday, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice responded: "David Kay is not going to be done with this for quite some time. And I would not count on reports. I suppose there may be interim reports. I don't know when those will be, and I don't know what the public nature of them will be." In other words, the Bush administration seems to be saying, any explanation of the missing weapons will come from Mr. Kay -- but don't "count on reports." This is an unacceptable dodge.

pretty good editorial slam against bush* from the WaPo

1. Guilty until proven guilty
The weapons are there, we know it, we'll keep looking (though not very hard) until we find them. If we never find any, then this is proof that they must still be there. Until Kay releases his report, we must assume that they are there. Expect Kay to publish sometime within the next 14 months.

2. "An unacceptable dodge"?
Since when? This administration has been dodging and ducking all sorts of thing since it first seized power. If the Post is finally (finally!) going to start holding them accountable, I'm all for it. But the Post and other media outlets have let these crooks operate out of the public eye for so long, there's no reason they should think they're finally going to be held accountable. Sure this game-playing with the WMD report is a dodge -- but unacceptable? The Post should be sure to let itself in for a share of the blame that the administration thinks it can do this again.
