Bush's WMD 'Joke': Is the Media Still Laughing?
A brief comment at a forum in Washington this week resurrects one of the most shameful episodes in recent media history: The night a roomful of journalists laughed along with a president making fun of the bogus threat that led to a costly war.

2. And don't forget the 'Trifecta' joke either.
Edited on Sat Jun-18-05 07:49 PM by EVDebs
"In his political speeches, Bush has been compulsively repeating his tasteless joke about "Lucky me, I hit the trifecta" because the 9-11 attacks gave him the justification he wanted to raid the Social Security fund"
http://www.davidcogswell.com/MediaRoulette/TrifectaJoke.html

"As I said in Chicago during the campaign, when asked about should the government ever deficit spend, I said only under these circumstances should government deficit spend: if there is a national emergency, if there is a recession, or if there's a war."

Bush repeated this at least 11 separate times (and told his "trifecta" joke based on it even more often)."

He's hit the Shitfecta Fan right about .... NOW.

From the article:

"That night, in the middle of his stand-up routine before the, perhaps tipsy, journos, Bush showed on a screen behind him some candid on-the-job photos of himself. One featured him gazing out a window, as Bush narrated: “Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere.” According to the transcript this was greeted with “laughter and applause.”

A few seconds later, he was shown looking under papers, behind drapes, and even under his desk, with this narration: “Nope, no weapons over there” (met with more “laughter and applause”) and then “Maybe under here?” (just “laughter” this time). Still searching, he settles for finding a photo revealing the Skull and Bones secret signal (more “laughter”).

There is no record of whether Dana Milbank attended that dinner, but his paper the following day seemed to find this something of a howl. Jennifer Frey's report, carried on the front page of the Style section (under the headline, “George Bush, Entertainer in Chief”), led with Donald Trump’s appearance, and mentioned without comment Bush's “recurring joke” of searching for the WMDs."

Dana Milbank is a real peach, isn't he? Seems a lot like the blivet-

5. oddly enough, it seems to give us no satisfaction to see the media finally
wake up -- at least, the segments of the media that still have some contact with a human soul.
I mean, people here at DU and other progressive sites have been saying this sort of thing for YEARS, and finally, a few in the MSM seem to be taking note.
You'd think there would be a degree of satisfaction. Instead, I still feel rage and contempt.

7. Me too. They will have to apologize bigtime, and even then I may still
feel the rage and contempt. But until they do there is no absolutely chance of those feelings going away.
Waking up is an improvement, but it isn't enough.

10. "rage and contempt" are accompanied
by disgust and distaste.

Worse than cheap whores (and I don't mean to put cheap whores down with the comparison), these nasty propagandists have blood all over their hands and have revealed that they have no affinity or allegiance to the continuation of our country as an honest or truthful nation.

I despise most mainstream journalists for everything they are and have done.

Their "apologies" for "bad reporting" have never included the truth about their lies - they have obsfuscated and muddied the waters - the crap they air on the evening snews passes only for infotainment and distraction.

I will never look at any of their programs again with any particle of credibility.

23. Because the MSM only reports "what anti war activists say"
about DSM and what not, not that IT and Bush were wrong..

Nobody in the MSM says anything more critical about the admin and neocons than what the Bush admin admits.

So it reports that some anti war activists think the DSM is a big deal, not that it is a big deal. Or that what the Brits thought about Bush is important.

Or it will report that no WMD was found, which Bush admits, but nothing about what it might say about Bush.

Therefore the MSM hasn't admitted it was wrong, because it hasn't admitted Bush was wrong. It only admits that there is opposition, which doesn't help at all.

guilty of War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity (that is: most of the LMSM) should all face justice in the Hague, IMO.

And to watch them laughing hysterically here at their lies is shameful beyond words.

9. I would love to see him have to answer for ...
making those jokes. How anyone can support someone who would joke about something like that, no matter how you feel about the war, is simply beyond me. He's a mean-spirited (as Molly Ivans said), small-minded, heartless man.

16. I never laughed...and I'm not laughing especially now...
I think there should be an ad that shows Bush talking about the threat of WMD's, then his little farce looking under the desk, then talking about the DSM and then showing the caskets and pictures of mothers holding the pictures of their dead children....

We'll see who is laughing....

20. Why didn't Kerry use this?
I hope Kerry rots in hell with the Bush clan also. He lost the election on purpose.

WHY DIDN'T HE USE THIS BUSH "JOKE" IN CAMPAIGN ADS AROUND THE COUNTRY?

Why didn't he use it? This is one of the most vile things any human could do, and this vile sub-human wanted to be put back into the White House, so why didn't Kerry stop him by any means neccessary. He should have used this footage. Enjoy the flames Kerry, with your Skull pal W.

21. If you have seen the Conyers hearing, then you have probably
seen McGovern talking about this idiocy. Then he told the exact number of days later that the mother's son died and the amount of time later that the son and brother of a man and his son who were at the hearing died. They were within a few days of this obnoxious video. Actually some of the reporters said that most of them were uneasy about the video and that the laughter was very muted.

Why was there any laughter at all? They're just trying to cover for their obvious blatant whoredom to the boy emperor. Once the light gets turned on, the cockcroaches scurry for cover.
