U.S. Constitution Under Threat in Climate of Fear
Charles Levendosky wrote this editorial...

http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/edit/archives/2003/09/26/2003069320

"During times like these, we earn a better understanding of the wisdom behind the creation of the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

The founders of the US wrote the framework of the government so that the US Constitution remains above all laws and all leaders. Not even the president is above the Constitution -- to paraphrase what was once said of the king of England and the Magna Carta.

The Bill of Rights was created to ensure individual liberties could not be trampled by a panicky Congress passing repressive laws or by a runaway presidency demanding more federal police power...."

1. It would seem this President is above the Constitution, a paniky
Congress has passed repressive laws, and this runaway presidency has demanded and gotten more federal police power to the AG's joy and delight. We have seen how fast the courts will act to assure that telemarketers' First Amendment rights are wholly unabridged whereas the Federal courts have moved not at all to overturn Federal law invalidating many First Amendment rights, freedoms, and liberties for the general non-corporate population. The separation of powers doctrine has become a farce as both the Legislative and Judicial Branches have wholly failed to uphold the separation of powers doctrine, so IMHO, they have failed to uphold their oaths of office.

3. Freedom for the corporation but not the individual
Of course, repubs would say that the inverse would be "socialism".
Gads. The horrors of it all.
