The situation with Sen. Richard Durbin serves as a great example as to how far this country has regressed into something our Founding Fathers would never have recognized. Unfortunately, it's not what the Illinois senator said that's the problem, but the reaction from political pundits, party mouthpieces and radio talking heads that have demanded he apologize for his recent comments comparing Guantanemo Bay to the Holocaust and the Soviet gulags.
In one instance even, a prominent talk show host called for his resignation. My God, they call this a democracy? <snip>
Regardless if one agrees with the senator's statements, he surely has the right to say it. The punishment for his actions should occur at the voting booth in Illinois where his constituents can decide whether or not his comments are worthy of ousting him from office, and not from his colleagues' ostracism and condemnation over statements they don't agree with. <snip>
The media onslaught and cries for apologies have come from Republicans and Democrats alike, and both are guilty in committing continuous crimes against liberty and freedom in America, all the while pretending to be fighting for it overseas. Nevertheless, the left and the right are responsible for setting parameters on speech: the former in the guise of political correctness and the latter with their exclusive definitions of acceptable patriotism. Both are tyrannical, only a different flavor. <snip>
