No wonder America has so many enemies
President Bill Clinton was impeached by a Republican-controlled Congress for lying about sex. President George W. Bush and aides lied the United States into a stupid, unnecessary colonial war that has so far killed more than 305 Americans and seriously wounded more than 1,400. It has also cost many thousands of Iraqi dead, and $1 billion US weekly.
Lying about sex is an impeachable offence; lying the nation into war apparently is not.

<snip>

The White House's mouthpiece media, led by Fox News, have simply blanked out world opinion and endlessly chorused administration war propaganda.

A fascinating March study of network TV news by New York's Fairness and Accuracy in Media shows how Americans were misled into war by outrageously biased programming on Iraq.

The analysis found: a) 76% of all commentators about Iraq on TV were present or former government officials; b) only 6% of commentators expressed skepticism regarding the need for war - when 61% of the public supported more time for diplomacy and inspections; c) on the four TV networks, less than 1% of sources were identified with anti-war groups.

1. Shrub wouldn't get away with it if
the “dumbing-down of America” weren’t in full force. Since most people simply watch the television for their news, and go no further to investigate what they hear, Shrub can get away with all his lies. He’s bought off the major media outlets with huge tax breaks so they won’t “out” him. If the people in this country had half a brain, they would rise up and scream about the lies they are force fed on a daily basis. But no, that would require thought and God forbid anyone think for themselves. What a terribly sad commentary on the state of our country and the lack of intelligence of the average American.

Thanks for sharing this article that confirms my long-held suspicions about the number of sheep being lead to slaughter by the wolf in the Whitehouse.

5. The irony is that Margolis'column appears in the right-wing Toronto Sun
The Sun loves nothing better than to suck up to the US right wing republicans, and all their other columnists are frequently telling us how it's Canada's role to support the US come hell or high water (becuase we were allies in WWII and Korea and if we piss them off they won't trade us, don't you know).

Margolis is very much on the right when it comes to economic matters, but very anti-neocon. It seems to me that his anti-Bush sentiments were reinforced after he found out the Shrub was AWOL from the TANG (Margolis is a US citizen and voluntarily enlisted in the US Army in the Viet Nam era).
