Rumsfeld is Destroying the Army
WASHINGTON - Armies are fragile institutions, and for all their might, easily broken.

It took the better part of 20 years to rebuild the Army from the wreckage of Vietnam. With the hard work of a generation of young officers, blooded in Vietnam and determined that the mistake would never be repeated, a new Army rose Phoenix-like from the ashes of the old, now perhaps the finest Army in history.

In just over three years, Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and his civilian aides have done just about everything they could to destroy that Army.

1. Right.
Once the armed forces are completely and utterly destroyed, they can then outsource to any one of a number of private mercenary firms that presently exist and are looking for more market-share.

Prediction: Rumsfeld will someday leave the Pentagon in psychiatric restraints. You heard it here first.

2. So true and it will take years to rebuild after he is gone.
Hopeful at the end of 2004.

And the biggest things Rummy wants to do are still out there.

Moving the Army posts in Germany to Poland or some country like that.

While the number of troops needed in non-cold war Europe is up for question. Once you close down the German posts and moved, you can not just up and say... sorry we made a mistake.

4. Look at it this way
This cloud has a sliver lining: the more damage he does now, the fewer countries PNAC can subjugate.

7. This isn't a silver lining
think about it. There is no silver lining. We need a strong professional military AND sanity about how to use it. The GOP has taken away the sanity; taking away the strength, too, won't balance it out.

It will just double the damage.

5. What they really want are 21st Century Hessians!
Rummy and his Neocon buddies want a TOTALLY PRIVITIZED group of Mercinaries to do whatever their corporate masters want.
