It Just Gets Worse

By BOB HERBERT
Published: July 11, 2005

If there's something funny about Mr. Bush's misbegotten war, I've yet to see it. The president deliberately led Americans traumatized by the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, into the false belief that there was a link between Iraq and Al Qaeda, and that a pre-emptive invasion would make the United States less vulnerable to terrorism.

... much more at link, it's a total takedown of Bush... and Krugman has a great column calling out Bush on his reckless fiscal mismanagement.

6. It is all so true, and that's the part that drives me crazy...
He has done such a good job at dividing the electorate and putting the focus on things that don't really matter to our national security, economic well being or social policies that it doesn't matter what the truth is. God, guns and gays are the only thing that matter anymore to a huge segment of the population, and I think the only thing that would give that segment of the population any reason to abandon their icon is if someone came up with video of him having sex with a hot guy after taking a dump on a picture of Charlton Heston on a Sunday afternoon!:banghead: :banghead:  :nuke:

7. Bob Herbert takes the term "articulate" to another level.
He pretty much sums up beautifully everything I can feel, but can't put into words. People like him and Krugman make me really proud to be on this side of the poitical divide.

9. I had missed this episode of Bush's vicious jeering...
...at the efforts of the men and women he ordered into the meatgrinder of Iraq -- as if the soldiers, merely by being the kin of working families, deserved such obscenely haughty belittlement. I wonder if -- in the exclusive privacy of walnut-paneled, leather-chaired clubs -- Bush and his fellow plutocrats make similar sport of starving children who desperately search ever-more-barren realms for food...

11. None of this explains why he was re-elected
The problem isn't just Bush - the problem is the people his policies appeal to.
