Unanswered questions in London bombings
A long article, but full of juicy details...

Unanswered questions in London bombings
By Chris Marsden
11 July 2005

Birmingham city centre was closed down Saturday night, and 20,000 people were evacuated for 10 hours. West Midlands Police put up an exclusion cordon around the A38 inner-city ring road, blocking off the city’s Broad Street entertainment district and the city’s Chinese quarter, an area full of pubs, theatres, restaurants, flats and hotels. Four controlled explosions were carried out on a bus on Corporation Street, but officers say the item destroyed had not posed a threat.

Birmingham city centre faced “a real and very credible threat,” West Midlands Chief Constable Paul Scott Lee said. His assistant chief constable, Stuart Hyde, stressed that the police did not believe “that the incident that we are dealing with this evening is connected with the events of 7 July in London.”

On Sunday morning bomb disposal experts declared that a suspect package at the Travelodge Hotel on Broad Street was not a “credible device.”

This is all that is publicly known about a major security alert. The situation is not much better in regard to the London bombings last Thursday that left 49 people confirmed dead and a further 25 unaccounted for. No one knows who committed the atrocity. There are a number of unanswered questions, about which contradictory statements have been made. Factual information previously given out by authorities about the explosions themselves has turned out to be false.

1. Supposedly, exercises going on simultaneously
Another DUer posted the message below at least twice, but it quickly disappeared each time. (DU censorship???) I am reposting. I cannot confirm this information, but several websites are reporting this. Another is: www.canadafreepress.com/2005/cover070905a.htm

2. WHY are the terrorists attacking us??
Lets put ourselves in their place and speculate for a moment...

It has to be something serious enough where people think nothing of blowing themselves up for THE CAUSE. The presence of Americans on THEIR LAND is THREATENING>>>? Especially when we prothesize openly in Iraq right after its "Fall" / "Liberation"?

Then we steal their OIL...cause thats how they see it.

Then its revealed we torture them....giving them license to torture our troops....but more important, producing anger on a high level...

Bush has gotten himself into a "Quagmire" and is flommoxed as to how to extricate without losing FACE.

The Insurgents feel very strongly about our presence and actions on what they feel is THEIR TURF.....we are the violators and they always see it that way....enough of them will be hard core till death and will upset any peaceful resolution with roadside bombs and other forms of dispruption. And, they call themselves anything but insurgements...its us who violate them...they are patriots and it is we who do them wrong...

Until we fix the perception.... coffins will continue to come home and families will continue to weep. Bush ain't shit....

3. Yes, people have motive to kill us, but...
...how are they getting the MEANS and the OPPORTUNITY?

Are our intelligence services totally incompetent or are they doing nothing to stop terrorists because the ruling administrations benefit from every attack?

Each attack is immediately used as an excuse to shove through more intrusive privacy-destroying legislation and pump tens or hundreds of billions of dollars to private defense contractors.

4. Tons of Ammo from an unguarded dump was missing when we
first invaded the place. One week it was all there...the next week, GONE. The Unguarded Ammo Dump was a scandle. Now we know why.

as for the opportunity...just wait till dark...we cannot guard every inch of road 24/7.

Terror can never be won over with military force...unless we kill every last one of the peeps involved....babies included.....

When Bush invaded this place called Iraq...he opened a Pandoras Box.
He can see it now but is flummoxed as to a solution other than the same ole plan, keep at it till success.... but as he and the whole world can see... it ain't happening baby.

6. Neocons WANTED Iraq to devolve into chaos!
"When Bush invaded this place called Iraq...he opened a Pandoras Box. He can see it now but is flummoxed as to a solution."

The neocons who convince Bush to do this or that WANTED Iraq to become a disaster because: 1) it becomes a sinkhole for more military and anti-terror spending; and, 2) it gives us an excuse to base our troops in Iraq permanently, thereby projecting our power into the heart of the Middle East.

If they had wanted Iraq to become a success, they would have: A) Listened to the very professional analysis the State Department conducted with countless experts regarding the post-occupation Iraq, rather than throw it in the trash and forbid anyone from using it; and, B) Protected Iraq from looting of ammo dumps, government ministries, libraries, etc. rather than protecting only the Oil Ministry; and, C) funded real reconstruction.

13. Same desire for "bad shit" for different reasons...
The neocons want "bad shit" to happen because they get wealthy when hundreds of billions of dollars pour into their defense contracting firms and when the US gets to control oil and other nations' resources. They also want it because the so-called "war on terror" helps them stay in office and let giant corporations economically rape our nation.

The right-wing evangelicals want "bad shit" to happen because their perverted interpretation of the Bible emphasizes "the Rapture" (from the Book of Revelation, which shouldn't even be in the Bible) rather than the Beatitudes or anything Christ ever told us to do for one another.

11. "will upset any peaceful resolution" - extraordinary claim
"Until we fix the perception" - and there's another one...

the REALITY, you noted in your OP, is a tad more than 'perception' also i would say that the "patriots" fighting now would give ANYTHING, even their lives, to reach, in the end, a "PEACEFUL resolution".

peace

5. First thing I thought odd when I heard the news
was that authorities talked so long about a power surge being
responsible. Two reasons - one, I've never heard of such a thing
happening on the Underground, and while I lack the knowledge to say
it isn't possible, I would think that maintenance to prevent this
happening would have the highest priority. And second, given that
the government has always said the Underground would be a prime
target, why on earth would authorities not react instantly to any
kind of an explosion? The only reason I could come up with at the
time was that they're a bit thick.

But then I read about the warning given to Netanyahu not to leave
his hotel. The story has changed in the retelling, but at no time
has it been denied that Netanyahu changed his plans. Very strange.

LIHOP? or MIHOP?

8. And be sure to visit the Dungeon for more news and developments
The 9-11 hidey-hole, where all 9-11 threads are "moved." That's what's now happening to threads which don't hew to the official story on the London bombing -- IF they're not just deleted first.

9. One huge issue they want to sidestep
among many others that are required to actually deal with terrorism but the governments concerned are systematically incapable of doing.

is Homeland Security itself.

This conveniently bolsters the self-fulfilling priority of Bush that you can't defend against this stuff but have to attack the sources. Which unfortunately is an incompetent by product of a ruinous Empire scheme not an anti-terror war. What is amazing is that so much of every facet and dictum is such a complete sham that what is amplified most after an incident is chaos. "hide me, cover me." And ironically it is not the terrorists ducking for cover but the government, the news, every facet of the proclaimed anti-terrorist policy.

You could hide a dozen MIHOP plots in there, precisely the same mess as in the Kennedy assassination. It is an open invitation for anyone who wants to commit a crime and every public reaction is wrong, sidetracked or a lie.

10. Also begging a credible explanation is the extraordinary decision British
"Also begging a credible explanation is the extraordinary decision by the British authorities to downgrade the official threat level for the country, at a time when it was hosting the G8 summit of major industrial nations."

hmmm... someone worried about getting their hands caught in the terrorism jar
