NEW YORK--Since Karl Rove surfaced last week as the White House official who probably unmasked a covert CIA agent, new developments appear to confirm that the deputy chief of staff and chief Bush political strategist has committed treason:

In 1985 CIA traitor Aldrich Ames sold the KGB the names of every U.S. spy in the Soviet Union in return for $2 million. Arrests and executions soon wiped out America's human assets in the Soviet Union. As they were caught unprepared by one shocker after another--glasnost, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the implosion of the USSR--intelligence professionals suspected a well-placed mole as the culprit. But Ames wasn't caught for another nine years.

Karl Rove, on the other hand, has already been found out as a likely traitor to the United States. Now we must work backwards. Does his exposure help to explain some of the Administration's most baffling foreign policy blunders?

No matter how remote, we must now consider the possibility that Karl Rove may in the employ of, and/or receiving money from, a terrorist organization such as Al Qaeda. Alternatively, could he be in the employ of a hostile foreign government? If he betrayed a CIA agent, Rove is a traitor and therefore capable of anything. Only an exhaustive investigation of his and his associates' anti-American activities, up to and including those committed by George W. Bush, can resolve these questions.

National security is bipartisan. Democrats and Republicans may be divided over various ideological conflicts, but all patriotic Americans should be able to agree on a zero-tolerance policy for treason. Rove, those who worked with him and anyone who protected him must go.

just because you think something is far fetched doesn't make it so.

He coudl be working for the Sauds as well. Maybe China? Anyway you cut it every single action and policy that has come from his direction or that he had a hand in is now suspect. Much like everything that this administration has done and said is now needing to be reviewed thoruoghly by neutral observers.

I'm concerned about the Al Qaeda reference - this reads 'far out'.

I'm all for well thought out conspiracy theories with some evidence behind them (because groups of people participate in organized illegal acts all the time) but this one is reaching more than just a bit.

I would be very careful to collect all kinds of evidence from all kinds of people before making public the possibility of a link between Rove & Al Qaeda. The fact that there are lots of reasons to explore Mr. Rove's participation in other illegal activities - like fraud in the 2004 elections - means that I would focus on those first and report as the evidence accumulated.

15. The fact that there is the possibility Rove is a traitor worries me.

I think he should be suspended from the WH until the investigation is complete. I wouldn't want to risk one minute with a possible terrorist friend and traitor of an American CIA agent. Why is Rove still in the WH? Isn't that a security issue? He should be removed at minimum until the investigation is over. National security is foremost, there is no time for security breaches. For Bush to continue to have confidence with the facts at hand in Rove is unprecedented. For Americans to wait for the investigation to complete is risky. It only took one memo being ignored to bring down two towers and over thousands of American souls the their deaths.
It's time Rove step aside so that we can have confidence that a traitor isn't walking the halls of our WH.

In case you haven't been watching media issues, AP's been pretty darn pro- * for some time.

I saw a thread not long ago to effect that AP was initiating a new practice of producing TWO versions of at least some stories. I forget how they characterized the difference; it wasn't strictly "liberal-conservative", but one wondered if that might be part of it.

So one question I've got is, is there another AP version of this story?

29. I disagree with the emphasis on Rove+Terrorism

Looking for a possible link with Rove and terrorists would be a diversion from highlighting the IMHO, main area of significance:

Rove undermined national security to get revenge on a whistle blower (Joe Wilson) who was exposing how Bush knowingly used bad intelligence to sell a war that Bush had already decided on at least a year before the invasion. Rove's motive was simple: intimidation and smearing of those who would mess up the plans for pre-emptive war.

I wouldn't be surprised at any level of treachery from this administration. But we need to stick to what we can prove and demonstrate. The above motive is simple and staightforward, and doesn't require that we find phone calls between Rove and Al Queda. We've got the 7 or 8 Downing Street documents, all independently verified by 4 (or more?) large news organizations, and not disputed by any of the people involved.

Proving that Bush lied us into war is the easiest means to victory over the Bush admin.
