Democrats Can Succeed Without the Filibuster
Edited on Wed Jul-13-05 07:44 AM by brainshrub
With or without the Filibuster Democrats will lose; they lack a spine.

ON EDIT: This is in reference to today's front-page editorial

The Enemy of Our Enemy May Still Be the Enemy of Democracy

We may not win in challenging Gonzales, but at least we will make clear why giving him a lifetime appointment is an outrage to democracy. We can highlight the profound destructiveness of the values that he and this administration represent. We can challenge the Republican "moderates" to stay true to their word and maintain the option of the judicial filibuster.

You are right, I should be more productive.

It's just that after watching Joe Biden point out that Gonzalez helped justify torture, but then say "You're the real deal, I like you;" made me realize that most incumbent Democrats don't have a spine and are loath to stand up for basic human rights.

My strategy: Have Democrats start growing a pair. Stop backing down like a surrender-monkey when confronted with evil. Torture is evil, there is no way you can compromise with someone who justifies torture.

Gonzalez helped make this happen:

If this isn't evil, I don't know what is.

3. I hear ya.
I was just having a conversation about this...How the repubs ran against Kerry on the platform that he was a flip flopper, or essentially that he gave too much ground to the republicans on things like the Iraq war, while also espousing the other side. We were saying if Dean had gotten the nomination, at least we would have given a strong message about what 49% believe.
