John Tierney says that Joe Wilson was not a "whistleblower." But here are the facts: President Bush said in his State of the Union address that Saddam was shopping for materials for atomic bombs; Wilson wrote in this paper that he had investigated the matter at the request of the government and told the government that the charge was not true; President Bush retracts the charge.
Wilson told the truth and contrasted President Bush’s most solemn address to the nation. Thanks to Wilson, President Bush retracted a false statement and we have one more bit of evidence that the administration’s case for war was based on assertions that IT KNEW to be false or at the very least unsubstantiated. If that's not "whistleblowing", then Mr. Tierney could call it by another name. I suggest "patriotism" in the alternative.
