BUSHED OUT IN THE LAND OF OZ ?

You are lost, very lost, and you want to find your way home in the worst way. You wander aimlessly through the dark woods and the crow-infested corn fields for what seems the longest time. The day's light is fading as you finally see a bright city in the distance and you make your way to its center.
You come upon a monolithic structure, a combination of castle and cathedral, and you make your way to the towering front doors. There are no windows. You knock and knock. You knock again. You scream out ... "Are there any signs of life in there?" After a moment of dead silence, a little trapdoor slowly opens and Scott McLellan's head pops out with no comment.
May you enter? Well, of course. But first you must establish your good intentions and your high moral character, i.e., your loyalty. You must agree that nothing beats the worship of mammon, that there can't be too many worshipers, on knees to the small number of corporate worshipees. You must agree to agree with whatever it takes to be agreeable. You agree to do so, on your loyal honor.
The doorman leads you inside and opens the doors to the main chapel in the center of the cathedral. It has sloping aisles, a stage at the front and gilted curtains hanging to the floor. A young boy, George W. Bush, is sleeping obliviously, in the fetal position, on the floor at stage front. He is wearing a costume flight suit and he has his thumb near his mouth.
His fully-grown, larger-than-life image is virulently projected above him, shimmering on the gilted curtains. His drawling voice booms out, 'Why have you come to this city and to this edifice and to this great seat of power. Why should the Great Bush, the "Uniter," be concerned with your trivial human desires?'
You reply that you are lost and want to find your way home to where the land provided most everything people needed and the people were honest and caring. 'You know, Oh Great Bush, where the world was not so warm and dry and not so dark and frightening.'
"Ah Ha!" the Great Bush roars. His image, eyes trained on nothing in particular, booms out his recorded wisdom. that 'We can only be free by believing in the God of lawless license, that we must help each other by giving alms unto the rich and powerful, that we must show our love toward others by attacking without provocation those who frighten us, that nothing needs to make sense in a world devoid of reason, that the Great Bush must rule because of his rightness.'
In the interest of the homeland, you agree. Then, on second thought, you disagree. Then you agree, for lack of other choice. The image of the Great Bush beckons you forward and you hesitantly move forward.
Suddenly ... on stage right ... you hear a snarled gasp and Dick Cheney falls out from behind the gilted curtain, clutching himself where his heart ought be. He has clearly been spinning wheels and dialing dials to ensure that the Great Bush does not stray from the imperial course, in service to the will of mammon's God, no matter what it takes.
Cheney reaches up and grabs the gilted curtain on his way to the floor. The curtain and its supporting framework shear from the ceiling anchors and you see Karl Rove as the curtain falls away. He is still busy spinning wheels and dialing dials to ensure that the Great Bush always wins, no matter what the issue, no matter what it takes.
And then the entire curtain, gilt and all, falls upon the Great sleeping Bush, its vast weight crushing him and his two brains into the ground, to be swallowed up by the earth and ultimately walked upon by the people. Sad story, but happy ending.
You and all the people cry. You and all the people rejoice. You and all the people realize that by not being afraid to be honest and by not being afraid to think for yourselves, you have taken the first step toward not being lost and the first step toward home.
The people in America have, more or less (and more or less understandbly), allowed the Bush administration to employ fear and religious coercion in getting away with an inherently immoral, unprovoked war. This has seriously altered America's role and reputation in the world, all in the name of nascent Christian human rights and the Declaration values of Jefferson's democracy.
The people in America ought not allow this administration to get away with treason in the interest of political gain. Karl Rove's "dirty tricks" approaches to political dominion provide the first real opportunity to bring these nasty men down, before they hurt more innocents. Do it, people. There can be no religious coercion this time around. While the Bush administration may have used religious coercion to justify leading the people into an immoral war, there is simply no way to justify Karl Rove's behavior within religion's embrace.
