'Free staters' pick New Hampshire (Libertarian Heaven?)
A libertarian movement promoting "minimalist government", the free market, drugs, prostitution and gun ownership plans to infiltrate New Hampshire to create a breakaway American regime, its leaders will announce today.
The Free State Project, which has supporters in the UK and worldwide, will reveal today at a meeting in New York that its members have voted for the small but highly-symbolic north-eastern state as its target to win power.

Project chiefs will now try to persuade 20,000 people to move to New Hampshire and sway the electorate towards blocking federal "nanny" laws and social restrictions.

There are still Shakers in New Hampshire too. Ron Paul for Congress! What next?

1. Next on the Marquee in New Hampshire:
The Hatfield and the McCoys -- Revisited.

You see it coming, you know it's inevitable, and nothing you can say or do to warn them is going to make one bit of difference.

2. Sounds like they will fit right in.
I doubt anyone will even notice they're here.

3. Let 'em try.

The most likely scenario is that they'll get mugged and hogtied politically by the Republican establishment there.

If they survive that and implement their agenda they'll definitely get a massive influx of felons and felonious corporations, and the rest of New England will get flooded with the welfare cases and the Boston commuting set will move out.

We can then probably get various citylets and towns to secede and try to join Maine or Vermont (if not Massachusetts). Certainly Portsmouth and Hanover would be gone, maybe Nashua too. Though it would probably not be surprising if Libertarians suddenly decided that absolute individual autonomy and the postulated non-existence of social contracts didn't actually permit that. (The Confederacy declared the request of the rebel Missouri state government to become independent- secede from the CSA- and try to start forming a Northwest Confederacy unconstitutional. 1863 iirc. The first proof that 'states' rights' has always been unworkable hypocrisy.)

Maybe we could then just sign up individual New Hampshirites as citizens of these other other states until we have majorities in all the southern counties, to just north of Winnepesaukee. Then we temporarily annex portions to the various states, razor wire off the rest and herd the Libertarians and paleocons into that remainder, northward into the mountains, where they can be the trolls under bridges they so desire to be. For fun we could instigate wars between them and the Quebec paleocons, the separatists. Or send in armored tourist buses resembling the polar bear excursion vehicles of Hudson Bay, from which visiting liberals can throw peanuts and read passages from Rousseau's Contrat Sociale into a bullhorn to the enraged natives with clubs and sticks and rocks below. Anthropologists could occasionally fly in by helicopter and tranquilize a few of the beasts via dart guns, then fly them out and test them for white male privilege, gun-grabbing delusion, and teenage political sociopathies.

Ok, I'm just having too much fun and edited a lot out. Yes, I'm destined for Hell already.

4. I especially liked the throwing peanuts part.
I always wondered, when you take government away from a Libertarian, will he have a reason to live? It's worth a shot to find out.

5. sounds like imperialism to me...
move people en masse to a place that's already populated in order to achieve your own narrow interests...

I guess the libertarians have no problem with colonialism, though it seems like this would be a contradiction...

6. Libertarians are the ultimate co-opters of parties.
It's part of their plan and they discuss it openly. They know they will never get wide appeal, so they infiltrate either the Democratic party or the Republican party and co-opt it. Their true genius is that they will achieve their personal agenda by co-opting both. Their seductive appeal is apparent. To the Liberal factions their talk of free sex and drugs is an admission ticket into the party. And to the conservatives their commitment to free markets, property rights and down-sizing government opens doors.

They are true chameleons who are achieving their dream of living in an anarchistic world, by destroying the platform of both parties. They really should have no appeal to the Liberals, because Libertarians have no love for social programs; and they should have no appeal to the conservatives, because Libertarians have no real love for higher morals. Yet, wherever you look, there they are and not one seems to see the big picture.

8. oh boy
<<Project members are mostly men and in their 20s and 30s. >>

That is perhaps the most telling statement in the article. Disenfranchised white guys who have no community feeling or concern, want to take over my state. Lovely. I predict they won't be warmly recieved by the women here.

There is a libertarian fringe, most certainly in NH - but even some of the local libertarian types here aren't going to go for reversing drug laws. There is a limit to NH libertarianism - drugs and hookers are pushing the envelope a little too far.

I do hear the governor's been talking to them - not a surprise. He's a rich jerk, who has no sense of social responsibility. He'll fit right in.

10. And there is one big question they haven't discussed
Are there 20,000 jobs available?, let alone housing for an influx of people of that number?

12. I hope they all leave from Colorado. Good riddance.
20,000 isn't going to do anything to New Hampshire. They shoulda chosen Wyoming, especially since sheep already outnumber men in Wyoming, and women are scarcer still.
