P-G: Santorum's sermon on child care
This Reg Henry editorial was printed in Stripes on Friday. I couldn't find it on DU and can't bear to have a yet-another slam on Santorum not be included on any DU editorial search of "cretin."

Memories of what life was like back in the day must be rosier for Rick Santorum, who represents Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate and used to live here. That perhaps explains why his recent book -- titled "It Takes a Family to Raise a Right-Winger" or some such -- seems a tad out of touch with, oh, I don't know, the 21st century.

I confess I have not read the book, for the very good reason that life is too short. I feel it is enough that I read the reported quotes, which were revealing enough and left me with a profound sorrow for the trees sacrificed in the effort.

1. That has turned out to be one of my most favorite articles this year.
Unfortunately, Henry uses sarcasm to make his point. I've learned this is beyond the comprehension of most nutters.

2. I hate Santrum, but this article is mediocre.
He should have read the book, and he should have constructed better articles, the possible variations of which are many.

especially the part where (like most of his ilk, he no doubt believes that) it's your moral duty to beat the shit out of your kid--excuse me, "dare to discipline," starting when they're barely able to walk and talk, if not before. Children are evil, you know, just like the rest of us. Original sin and all that. Most of the things they do that you don't like, from saying "no!" to eating with their fingers to crying through the night, are all about you, you, you, and defying Your Will. Certainly they shouldn't expect you to respect them or put their needs before yours; how selfish is *that?* No, beat their willfullness out of them. They'll understand. When they're all grown up and have children of their very own, *then* they can expect to come first and finally get their needs met.

and God made Eve from the rib of Adam; don't let the fact that women are the ones who have the babies fool you, the *real* power and creativity comes from the guy, so be quiet and get back in the kitchen, l'il missy.

all of this is self-evident! it's the Natural Way of Things! That's why we keep having to drill it into you! Just like if we didn't keep telling you about the law of gravity, we'd all float out into space and DIE! PRAISE Jesus and pass the collection plate.

4. Thanks for posting the link!
I enjoyed the column!

I work out of the home - but I still have always sent my child to school or day camp.

She is an only child; she would wind up being bored much of the time at home.

At school, not only does she learn math and reading, but her speech and vocabulary improve being with the other kids. Her social skills improve .

Is Mrs. Santorum with the kids 24/7?
