Yeah, I'm getting another LTTE printed.........
I just heard from the editor, they always verify before printing.
This one is in response to some pissed off Slug who thinks the economy is great and people (Krugman in particular) should just shut up about how bad the economy is. It's just great :eyes: and Liberals are all wrong about it. This my fourth this year, they're getting to know me on a first name basis now. I have yet to receive one phone call from someone contradicting me, I have received many in support of my opinions. Sorry about the gloating, but I love when this happens, it makes me feel like I might at least get ONE more person thinking.

Subject: Krugman corrupts good news on jobs.

I read with amusement the letter from a reader commenting about Paul Krugman's article, "Jobless Drop is a False Positive". Mr. Savella's assertion that everything is just peachy keen with the economy sounds like it came directly from a Republican talking points memo or The Wall Street Journal (one in the same).
There can be no denying that the industrial base in this country has been reduced to a skeleton crew. Every day we are greeted with news of massive layoffs, not only in our own community, but nationwide as well. Where, pray tell, are people going to find jobs that come anywhere near the wages and benefits that these companies provided? The largest growing sector of jobs in America is the service and retail (read; Wal*Mart) sector, not known for their generosity.
Millions of people have stopped looking for work because they cannot find anything comparable to their previous positions and they cannot exist on the wages the "new economy" provides. That there isn't an "office to register as a 'nonparticipant'", doesn't mean that these people do not exist. They're out there, by the millions. If things are as rosy as we're told to believe, why the anemic economy? The economy should be booming if the government's numbers are accurate, but we always hear that it's "fragile, but growing", albeit at a glacial pace.
That the reader and many other Conservatives don't believe these facts speaks volumes about their claim of "compassionate conservatism". It more resembles, "head in the sandism".

2. Great letter- loved the "head in the sandism" comment
too bad the paper can't print a more accurate description, i.e., head-up-one's-****ism."

Most excellent!

on edit: Since I've been reading the local editorial page I've notice regular writers of LTTEs. Our progressive voices are very good, especially at knocking down the couple of regular rabid right wingers who are always spewing the party line. Kudos joining that group of people!
