MSNBC: Don't Mess With The CIA

What lies behind CIA leak scandal

"Outing of agent is about battles in administration — and arrogance

WASHINGTON, Oct. 2 — I’ll stipulate that it is a felony to disclose the name of an undercover CIA operative who has been posted overseas in recent years. That’s what the statute says. But the now infamous outing of former Ambassador Joseph Wilson’s wife isn’t primarily an issue of law. It’s about a lot of other things, like: the ongoing war between the CIA and the vice president’s office; the long, complex relationship between George Tenet and the Bush family; the tinge of arrogance among some (as yet unidentified) members of Bush’s team; and, ominously for the president, a breakdown in discipline among his spin doctors, who, in the old days, always wrote the same prescription....."

1. Most balanced reporting from Fineman I've ever read
I thought his characterization of the Clinton impeachment was particuraly neutral.

2. Slimeman slithers his way through truth and spin and partisanship here....
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 02:14 PM by KoKo01
as usual! The article is so carefully crafted to pit the CIA against the White House....and argue that nothing a Repuglican President does is ever just downright illegal and should be punished (notice he mentions Nixon...but doesn't mention Reagan's lies and Poppy's lies and illegal operations).

Instead, "Slimeman" takes the Repug tact that it's all Politics and battles and that Watergate was just because of infighting and arrogance and the hysterical Dems are always going to take advantage of that.....so Little Chimp should have been more careful because after all......the Dems have hoisted the Repugs on their own lying, arrogant petards before......so one always has to figure they will do it again.

"Slimeman" always is the Master of spin....while looking like he's giving you "new insider info" he basically gives you the Repug Pamphlet on how to "weasel out of obeying the Law."

He's disgusting....but an interesting read to see how the Repugs will play this out.

3. Excellent article, but there's a problem inherent here for Kerry.
In an interview on MSNBC today, in which he was trying to neutralize the repuke charges that Wilson is a Demo operative who has been/is on his team, Kerry specifically stated that he had never met Wilson and he was not advising him in any capacity.

Fineman is a Kerry supporter (and DLC hack), as evinced by his articles for quite some time. However, in his article, he says THIS which can be picked up and spun by the repukes and no doubt will be very very soon.

--------
"Wilson had close ties to the Democrats, having worked for them on the Hill and on Clinton’s National Security Staff; he was close to Sen. John Kerry and some other former NSC people who are now allies of the senator;"

4. No problem at all. It boosts Kerry to a clear 2nd place, AFAIAC.

5. I think it WOULD boost Kerry but
The problem is that he denied (unneccessarily imho) that he knew Wilson at all. This is something that the cabal will get ahold of instantly and have a ball with. In other words, instead of having the positive impact that his appearance should rightfully had, he screwed up by denying acquaintance with Wilson and it will come back to bite him.
