HILLARY CLINTON: THE UNLIKELY WARRIOR
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 08:01 AM by Fluffdaddy
I love a woman that loves a Strong military.
Maybe some of that 80K will be some young Republicans. But I don't thinks so. They talk a good game..........That's about it.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton proposes to expand the US Army by 80,000 soldiers.

"The United States Army Relief Act," as NY's junior senator puts if, is a serious proposal — and it deserves to be examined on its merits.

It's appropriate to cast a skeptical eye on Mrs. Clinton's ever-evolving policies and principles. She is, as the political pros say, repositioning herself.

Certainly, the words "Hillary Clinton" and "strong military" were unlikely to be found in the same sentence before she was thought to be seeking the presidency.

Well, so what?

As president, Bill Clinton finally signed a Republican welfare-reform bill. Was he being "political"?

Yes.

But it was the right thing to do.

In her four years in office, Sen. Clinton has been one of the most consistently supportive members of her party on the conflict in Iraq and on the broader War on Terror.

Whatever motives one might wish to impute, she seems to recognize the security paradigm that undergirds politics in the 21st century.

Thus the troop proposal is a useful contribution to the debate.

Are the troops needed?

In a word, yes.

Most serious outside observers recognize that the US military, particularly the Army, has been stretched dangerously thin by the ongoing commitments to Afghanistan and Iraq.

Multiple deployments of various units have created wear and tear across the board, but particularly in the National Guard and the Army Reserve.

There seems to be near unanimity about the need for more troops. Democrats like Joe Lieberman — a co-sponsor of the Clinton bill — understand the problem, as do any number of Republican lawmakers.

In addition to Iraq and Afghanistan, perennial hot spots like Iran and North Korea and potential problems like China's military buildup have to be addressed in the context of possible personnel deployment.

23. I mean standing by the person (or country) you love!
We all make choices in life, some wrong, some right. That does not make us unlovable.

It shows that she isn't a quitter when things get rough. I want someone who isn't afraid to forgive, to show compassion, to be strong.

24. what values are there in standing
by an illegal war, an administration that lies and a husband who cheats? I don't think that shows courage, I think that shows a desperation to stay with the cool kids.

Here's a little more from Arianna.
According to the DLC, Democrats need to show their willingness to fight terror...by capitulating to the Republicans on pretty much every front. In fact, what the Democrats need is to ignore the siren songs urging them to move toward the victors and, instead, reclaim the Party’s true identity and challenge the GOP head-on on its disastrous pursuit of the war on terror.

It’s hard to have an “American Dream Initiative” headed by someone whose every recent move has been driven by triangulating calculation.

“I have always tried to strike a balance,” Hillary once said. “I think you have to view the world as it is, not as you would wish it to be.” That's a long, long way from RFK’s famous line (quoting Shaw): "Some men see things as they are and ask, 'Why?' I dream of things that never were and ask, 'Why not?'"

Remember, Hillary is the one who, before the 2004 election, cited the president as someone “we owe a debt of gratitude” to for capturing Saddam. Which is playing right into the GOP’s hands. The Democrats will never return to power so long as they allow Republicans to present themselves as the party best suited to keep us safe from terror, instead of exposing all the ways in which they have actually left us much more vulnerable and unsafe than before.

The good news is that the DLC’s disingenuous call for unity was a bust… except in the way it united the progressive blogosphere. Because if there's one thing that can bring progressive bloggers together, it's another clueless call by the DLC for capitulation "unity."

Long gone are the days when the DLC was the only game in town. Now the pushback was instant, with bloggers tearing into the DLC, each sounding different notes but together creating a clear chorus of dissent.

but I don't consider those are the most admirable traits in a human being. I think there are other women who would be better leaders than her.

You seem to be really "in love" with her. Sorry to rain on your parade.

28. Sheila Jackson Lee
Barbara Lee, Jan Schakowsky, Barbara Boxer. Any of these women would make excellent presidents. They are very politically savvy, they are incredibly intelligent and don't carry her baggage and would give us a woman to be proud of. Those are for starters.

19. here is Arianna's take on Hillary
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 03:35 PM by BareNakedLiberal
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/theblog/archive/arianna-h...

So there's a fight brewing in the Democratic Party. And it has nothing to do with John Roberts. Instead, it was prompted by Hillary Clinton assuming her role as head of the DLC’s “American Dream Initiative” and immediately calling for a “ceasefire” in the fight over the direction the party should be taking.

Right. Sure. I believe a little translation is in order. Because in almost every instance where a politician or political group calls for a "ceasefire," or "a stop to the mud-slinging," or "unity," what they’re really saying is: "I'm calling on the other side to stop disagreeing with me, so we can move forward in the only right way. Which is my way."

Hillary is full of herself.

edited for spelling

2. She needs a bigger Army to support the immoral war she voted for
Hillary is a hypocrite just like Joemomentum. Neither served in the military, yet they want more cannon fodder to support their imperial wars.

I'm waiting for her to "Frame" how a Draft would be good for this nation. Of course, I'm sure she'll write in loopholes in Draft legislation so Chelsea won't get drafted.

9. As the folks used to say...if your freinds jumped off a bridge...
does that mean you have to too? Just because other sell outs voted for Shruby's dirty little war does not exonerate Hilary Clinton. Add to that more troops to fight for oil for the rich, her sudden need to censor video games, her publicly teaming up with the Puke-pandering DLC. If she wants to be a puke, why doesn't she just become one. The center is the right of a generation ago. The left is the center of a generation ago.

11. Some of us support possible candidates who warned the Senate
against voting for this immoral war. Warned them that, while Saddam could be dangerous, the mission in Afghanistan needed to be completed before sidetracking into a war that had nothing to do with 9/11 and a war in which the dictator, Saddam Hussein, had been effectively curtailed by our military.

Some of us also know that Hillary won't flip a red state in November 2008 and possible will lose a couple of blue ones.

Some of us think leadership is more imporatant than pandering to the squishy middle.

15. I didn't support Kerry either. I voted as an ABB voter. That's all Kerry
got out of me because I had promised to vote Dem in 2004.

But 2008, I make no ABR promises. The Dem Prez candidate will have to earn my respect, not be the lesser of 2 evils.

7. It doesn't matter to me how many freaking Dems voted YEA on IWR
A vote YEA on the Iraq War Resolution is not excused because other spineless Dems voted YEA as well.

Everything Senator Robert Byrd said came true. The conflict expanded. We didn't know what we were getting into. We had not justified the invasion.

If they didn't listen Byrd and stand with him against the idiocy of the invasion, they won't have my support in 2008 primaries.

but the system is short folks and she is saying the obvious.

We are where we are - and should never have gotten - but going forward as we get out we do need a larger Army to lessen the strain on Guard and Reserves.
