Janet Daley writes for one of the well-known broadsheets, The Times on Sunday. So, what attack did Al-Qaeda launch against Spain after the new government declared it was pulling its troops from Iraq, that was missed by the entire world? Or was it an invisible attack launched by some super Al-Qaeda space-gun, no doubt developed by Saddam Hussein in the good old days as part of his WMD programme! If this sort of nonsense was emanating from a tabloid ‘journalist’ like Richard LittleJohn, then everyone would have understood! Janet Daley is not alone, the mere mentioning of the word “Al-Qaeda” seems to cause brain cells to malfunction, as some of the most intelligent members of the British establishment, be it journalists, politicians or even academics, lose all cogency and factual argument. <snip>
