Fresh off his “in your face, Senate!” recess appointment of John Bolton,
President Bush is hightailing it out of town for his annual August vacation at the Crawford ranch (wouldn’t that make a great commercial: “President Bush, you’ve just thumbed your nose at the U.S. Senate and sent to the UN a man who thinks it should be demolished, now what are you going to do?” “I’m going on to Crawfordland!”). This visit marks the president’s 50th trip to his Texas ranch since taking office -- an average of 10 visits a year.

1. "that’s just not the George W way"---telling the truth.

.....But don’t hold your breath waiting for that pronouncement. If Bush did that, he’d be dangerously close to advocating a policy wherein what’s good enough for his family is also good enough for other peoples’ families. And as we’ve seen from the war, the environment, healthcare, military service, taxes, and telling the truth (hey, John Bolton; hey, Karl Rove) -- that’s just not the George W way.

3. I started my job just before junior started his current gig.

My hire date was Dec 18, 2000, so he and I have fairly close to the same amount of time in our current positions.

I get 2 weeks vacation, plus 1 personal day. Also, 6 sick days that are accrued at the rate of 1/2 day per month, and cannot be used until they are earned. I also pay for my own vacations.

Since I began working here, I had a long weekend in the Keys, a very long weekend in London 2 years ago, and a week-long cruise last year. I also took off alternate Mondays from Sept 02 until March 03, going out-of-town on those weekends to spend time with my mom as she was dying of breast cancer, and lend moral support to my dad, the supreme care-giver. (I didn't use vacation days for that time; I just didn't work those days. My hours were made up during the rest of the week, and all my work was completed on time.) The rest of my time off has been a day here and a day there, usually spent at home doing nothing in particular.

But 50 trips - Shit, I can't even afford to drive to Key Largo right now!
