Former CIA man says Bush not happy over new terror language
http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Former_CIA_man_says_Bush_not_happy_over_new_terror_la_0802.html

Bush critic Larry Johnson, who served as a Deputy Director in the U.S. State Department’s Office of Counter Terrorism from 1989 to 1993, tells RAW STORY the intelligence community is 'abuzz' after President Bush purportedly said he was not happy about changing the Administration's terminology on terror.

<snip>

Bush reportedly said he was not in favor of the new term, Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism (GSAVE). In fact, he said, "no one checked with me". That comment brought an uncomfortable silence to the assembled group of pooh bahs. The President insisted it was still a war as far as he is concerned.

The battle over language and the confusion within the National Security Council is an unfortunate reminder of the chaos that is afflicting the Bush Administration's effort to deal with terrorism. Unfortunately, every agency and department is doing its own thing without strong, clear direction or control from the White House. Makes longtime bureaucrats long for the days of Richard Clarke, when at least there was someone in charge.

18. He a war and peace flip/flopper in chief....
""The enemy declared war on us," he told a re-election rally. "Nobody wants to be the war president. I want to be the peace president.""

Previously he said:

""I'm a war president. I make decisions here in the Oval Office in foreign policy matters with war on my mind,""

we already saw his tantrum before Iraq when he went to the UN. They said 'no war' and he said 'fuck you! I'm going to war anyway!' He acted just like a little kid who didn't get his way!!

9. Ha! I thought it was a good thing.
Seriously. Bush declared war a vague mathod, and abbreviated it as a war on an emotion: "The War on Terror". Now there's people here that think the new name indicates an expanded front, but I'm not so sure. I think its possible that people that some people just looked around and realized that the current situation isn't going to be "won" with military action. There is no military response to what happened in London, for example. In addition to that, violent extremism has more of a definable meaning than "terror". A) Its violent, B)Its out of the mainstream consensus thought. I for one think the change might be a good thing.

34. This has me concerned.
This is an indication to me that shrub still thinks he can prevail against the global terrorism thing through traditional military war. I think he still wants to invade Iran which could be disastrous. I use the word traditional because I don't think he would rule out the use of nuclear weapons. It is apparent that there are people in the *administration who view the war in Iraq as a mistake and see that defining it in a way that can be judged as winning or losing is at least bad for politics. Wars have an ending; Struggles can be continuous.
