Vacaville mom's protest spreads to Marin, rest of U.S.Hundreds of people gathered around Marin County last night as part of a nationwide candlelight vigil in support of Cindy Sheehan, a Vacaville mother who is demonstrating outside President Bush's ranch over her son's death in the Iraq war.
Participants gathered along Bridgeway in Sausalito, along the Miracle Mile in San Rafael and near the Sir Francis Drake Boulevard exit to Highway 101 in Greenbrae, among other places. The vigils were coordinated by Moveon.org, a liberal non-profit organization engaged in national political events.
"She's a lightning rod for a lot of people," said Sofia Debussy of Sausalito. "This could be a turning point."

Fairfax resident Mary Renaud said that, in a time when the president purposely avoids attending soldier funerals and the government bans photos of caskets draped with American flags, Sheehan is putting a human face on a tragedy. "She has something important to say," Renaud said.
