Now hear this: I do not hate George Bush

You hate Bush. All you liberals are just Bush-haters.

Yup, there is afoot yet another attempt to change the subject. A recent caller called it to my attention.

She left a message on my voice mail recalling how someone recently remarked that her hatred for George W. Bush shaped her views about our president's policies. And I remembered that I, too, have been consistently treated to variations of the same charge. The comments above are some typical examples.

So, let's set the record straight.

I don't hate Bush.

I suspect that hate isn't a factor for most folks who dislike (Bush's) actions, including people who had been propping up those stratospherically high popularity numbers but are now bailing out.

1. If I thought I could have gotten in

I would have called C-Span this morning and revealed my main reason for hating George Bush.

I hated George Bush before he was President, I hated him for the callousness with which he executed people in Texas. This creature so gladly executed people he was proud of his record, and even though lawyers fell asleep who were defending people sentenced to die, nothing mattered in Bush's pursuit of death while he was governor of Texas.

Yes I hate George Bush. I hate callous murderers.

2. I don't hate chimpie either

I can't get up enough feeling for him to rise to that level. I do hate the beltway whores that brought him to us. Bush is very close to brain dead and has been for years, but the beltway whores would have us believe he is the living reincarnation of Lincoln, TR, FDR, Raygun, Ghandi, Eisenhower, just about every worthwhile figure from the last 200 years. For that, I will never forgive or forget.

3. Trust? Yes, I do think

that's a good trait. Back in the Medieval Times, trust and undying faith were part and parcel of the loyal vassals, to their Lord. This is the underlying idea of the crown on the king's head. It was supposed to show that the king actually had a golden aura around his head, like Jesus or other holy figures. The golden crown was supposed to illustrate that he could make no wrong decisions, and every decision he made was the right one.

In Scandinavian mythology, the kings were direct descendants of Odin and other deities. Criticize Odin? Better not.

I still think trust is a good trait. Provided the person I rely on is trustworthy.

And that's the difference today: If we are worse off today than 3 1/2 years ago, if time and time again we see that the people who we have turned over all this trust to are in it for themselves (and plenty of others), if they ignore common sense and fire people who tell the truth, then it's time to start questioning that trust.

4. To the extent you can hate someone you've never met...

I hate George W. Bush for all the lives he's taken and all the lies he's told. But I do not hate his policies because I hate him. I hate him because of his murderous policies. If I didn't, I wouldn't be human.

I agree that the term "Bush haters" has been bandied around pretty frequently by the right lately, in a clear effort to discredit criticism. Personally, I think we should make it a point to say Bush is probably a nice enough guy, but he doesn't have what it takes to run the country. This isn't about jealousy or personality, it's about results.

The Clinton haters hated the Clintons despite the fact that they were moderates who went along with quite a bit of the conservative agenda and despite the fact that the economy was good and we didn't start any major wars. Their hatred and their attacks seemed purely personal.

Bush may be a "decent guy" (which I don't agree with, considering the way he made his money in Texas), he may be a fun guy to drink beers with. My dissatisfaction with his leadership has nothing to do with him personally.

8. I hate Bush...

in the same way I hate murder, greed, willful ignorance, arrogance, facism, theft, war, etc. More accurately, I hate that he represents and tries to put into policy all of the things I consider 'evil' in the world. If he weren't president, I could care less about the man, but the truth is, he has absolutely no business holding any office or title whatsoever. I don't give a fig if he is a likeable fellow, as many people point out. He's earned nothing but contempt from anyone who has a conscience.

9. Is it ok to not hate the man, but to holistically despise all his policies

and actions, for nothing he does or has done is/was to promote the general welfare, is/was good for the entire nation, but rather all iswas to implement his ideology and to reward wealthy patrons, be it large corporations or individuals?

Actually what he fronts for, as Ive said a number of times in a number of threads.

Bush is certainly not in charge of this nation, nor is, for that matter any one man ever.......Bush is not responsible for the climate of hatred and lies that infects our political arena and both political party's campaigns. No more than Reagan was in charge of California or the nation, no more than Schwartzenegger will be in charge of that poor state in a few days.

I agree that Bush's conduct re the executions of so many in Texas was reprehensible and that his character as well as his intellect are in question but he is certainly a front man for the real power in this nation...a system in which money rules and the electorate remain fools......
