Strategizing a Christian Coup d'Etat
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines05/0828-03.htm

<snip>

At a time when evangelicals are exerting influence on the national political stage - having helped secure President Bush's reelection - Christian Exodus believes that people of faith have failed to assert their moral agenda: Abortion is legal. School prayer is banned. There are limits on public displays of the Ten Commandments. Gays and lesbians can marry in Massachusetts.

Christian Exodus activists plan to take control of sheriff's offices, city councils and school boards. Eventually, they say, they will control South Carolina. They will pass godly legislation, defying Supreme Court rulings on the separation of church and state.

"We're going to force a constitutional crisis," said Cory Burnell, 29, an investment advisor who founded the group in November 2003.

"If necessary," he said, "we will secede from the union."

3. Why are we reading about these clowns again?
Christian Exodus activists plan to take control of sheriff's offices, city councils and school boards. Eventually, they say, they will control South Carolina. They will pass godly legislation, defying Supreme Court rulings on the separation of church and state.

"We're going to force a constitutional crisis," said Cory Burnell, 29, an investment advisor who founded the group in November 2003.

"If necessary," he said, "we will secede from the union."

Burnell has not moved to South Carolina himself - he promised his wife that they would stay in Valley Springs, Calif., until the end of next year - but believes that his 950 supporters will rally to the cause.

Five families have moved so far.

Did you read that?

Read it again.

Five families have moved so far.

Five families moved. They have less than 1000 supporters overall. And the group was founded two years ago.

But they're going to "take control of sheriff's offices, city councils and school boards. Eventually, they say, they will control South Carolina."

Yeah, okay.

WTF are we even reading about these guys again for?

5. Those are THREATS against our government and officials!!
What I wanna know is, how come they aren't listed as TERRORISTS? They're obviously at war with the United States!

I say, but the buggers in jail without a trial! If they don't believe in the constitution, or the laws of our country, then they sure wouldn't respect a court of law, anyway.

:kick:

9. They haven't threatened violence.
They haven't broken any laws. If and when they do, then arrests are in order but until then, I propose that we all simply laugh at them.

It's the pseudo-Christian Dominionists you're interested in, not the South Carolina separationist simpletons.

The ones we need to worry about are the ones who are currently and actively laboring to subvert our Constitution, not separate themselves from it.

10. don't you mean 12 December 2000?
don't you mean 12 December 2000?
...and the secession was from reality.

Hey, SC is a great choice for these goofballs. It's downwind of most of the rest of the US, so if they cause trouble after secession we can just nuke their asses and the fallout will blow out over the ocean.
