Religious Right Blames Gays, Abortion for Hurricane
http://web.morons.org/article.jsp?sectionid=2&id=6483
Posted by spatula on Aug. 31, 2005

I wish I could say I was making this up. But I'm not.

The Religious Right has lost its last marble. Anyone who believes the nonsense that they're dishing out now has got to be completely and utterly brainless. If you're reading this and you think that the positions taken by these fundamentalist wackos make sense, let me be absolutely clear now: you are stupid. You have no brains. You have disabled the organ that allows you to reason.

The Columbia Christians for Life have concluded that Hurricane Katrina was the wrath of God on the city of New Orleans for having abortion clinics. Now if that sounds remotely plausible to you, I should point out that they also claim the radar image of the hurricane resembles a 6-week-old fetus. No, I am not making this up. I wish I were. Note that the radar image does not resemble a 6-week-old fetus, but rather a hurricane.

The Brainless Right has also asserted that gays are to blame for the hurricane. Is this starting to sound familiar? The reasoning goes that a gay event, "Southern Decadence" was planned for Wednesday, August 31 through Labor Day. Ergo, the hurricane's arrival a few days before meant that God was displeased with New Orleans for allowing homosexuals to exist within its city limits.

6. you'd think that God, being omniscient, would choose...
...a less indiscriminate way of disposing those who displease him. Kind of odd that The Almighty finds this kind of collateral damage acceptable.

7. ACT OF GOD DESTROYS NEW ORLEANS
Excerpt:

"Let us pray for those ravaged by this disaster. However, we must not forget that the citizens of New Orleans tolerated and welcomed the wickedness in their city for so long," Marcavage said. "May this act of God cause us all to think about what we tolerate in our city limits, and bring us trembling before the throne of Almighty God," Marcavage concluded.

I hate - hate HATE Fundamentalists! and I f'ing live in a fundamentalist town. Sorry for my language but this just makes me so sick so angry so gd pissed off that peopel can be so small minded and hatefilled. these people have robbed ME of whatever shred of "faith" I had left. There is no way in HELL that what they believe is in any way shape or form REAL. If THEY believe it - then there si someihting wrong with it. and I'm just damn well not having any more of it.

12. when my wife told me about this.......
I blew a cork! How utterly ignorant to espouse such nonsense, not to mention in the name of their "God". How do you spell Blasphemy? I don't know who their "God" is, mine doesn't trivialize death and destruction of a Major City in such a way. I would mention my Baseball Bat, but there are people dead and dying, in dire need of help. Can anyone understand why they (the RW) can't seem to get a grip on the real issues of ANY subject?? (They are whining about the looters, for crying out loud!)

Let's pray for everyone who needs our help during this terrible catastrophe.

17. Reverend Bud says
This is Gods punishment for voting for Bush! But really, it's all Clinton's fault. If he had kept his Dick in his pants, Al Gore would still be president, FEMA would have given NO enough money to reinforce the Levy's that they asked for two years ago instead of Bush cutting their funding by 30% and this would not be the disaster that it is.

19. At least God could have waited to see how hot the party was
I'm sure He got an invite. The fundie version of God sounds like a bitter old queen.

I'm also confident that gay people have been part of New Orleans since its creation, and if God had wanted a perfect storm, He had centuries to cook one up. Why now and not before?

I think it's much more plausible that God was displeased with having religious fanatics within the city limits. Now that's cause for a real celebration.

20. someone told me yesterday "God is punishing them" I set them straight
I told them God doesn't get involved in man's affairs--at least He hastn't for a long long time. And besides, if everytime something bad happens that is proof that God is punishing people, I said, then what did you do so wrong that God gave you cancer? That was mean of me, I know, but I wanted to make a point.

21. Blame it on Newt Gingrich's divorces and remarriages
After all, the Bible says that homosexuality, and remarriage after divorce being adultery, are equal sins. Both require the death penalty. (See Mark 10:11 for Jesus on divorce) And there are a lot more divorced and remarried people than homosexuals in the US. God must be angry with Red State divorced and remarried Republicans. It's plain to see. Last time I looked straight people did not get extra points for being straight.

The above is in satirical jest aimed at the religiously-challenged, but I am praying tonight for all the people of the Gulf Coast affected by this disaster.
