Washington Implodes (best article I've read in six months)
http://www.motherjones.com/news/dailymojo/2003/41/we_557_01a.html

Spend 10 minutes reading this, and remember how you felt six months ago, thinking if only... Tom Engelhardt masterfully shows us the path of the reaper having arrived, and we wait no more.

17. Yeah, and then they do shit like the bullshit Corrie story.
I'm not sure about MJ - I'm not sure I trust it. But yeah, sometimes they get it right.

7. Excellent and great having so many articles together in one place with
additional links. Although, Vis, I thought I was a speed reader....only 10 minutes! LOL's...Took me much longer and I had actually read two of the linked articles before.

Very hopeful seeing it all put together. And, one realizes again how little news of value we get from the cables and even the networks. The print press has it all, even if one has to go around the world to find it!

Thanks!

8. The fading yellow ribbons in my small town and many others.....
that mark family members away on guard or reserve duty. That's the killing blow for the Bush* administration. These are folks who have voted with the GOP since day one and are slowly beginning to realize that they are being severly ripped off.

That's what's going to send them down.

16. Succinct summary of our failed conquest of Mesopotamian petroleum reserves
"But none of this, of course, makes sense if you leave out Iraq. Our fundamentalist leaders made a genuine pact with the Devil (and I'm not talking about the Great Satan Saddam here). They sold their souls for a Middle East of their dreams and for control over the great global oil spigot, rolled the dice, had their moment, and now when the Devil's come to collect, they've left themselves no way out. (That's the real Iraqi "quagmire.") And so, instead of driving their foes before them, they are being driven; and, in the end, what's driving them are the acts of resistance of undoubtedly relatively small numbers of increasingly better organized Iraqis -- angered urbanites, farmers who have lost kin, Baathist hardliners, embittered, discharged army veterans, Islamicist extremists (both homebred and foreign), unknown numbers of them brutes, thugs, fanatics, and criminals. Remarkably enough - and this is just the truth of the matter - they now hold the fate of the Bush administration in their hands. "
=|=|=|=|=|=|=|=|=|=|=|=|=|=|=|=|=|=|=|=
I wish I was confident that the Bush administration is about to be womped by the effects of this war. The press is masterful in covering up for Republican treachery, and I am sure that the White House is carefully crafting an Iraq war ideology for them to promulgate. However, I don't see this war winding down soon, nor do I see the economy improving by midsummer 2004, so we should be able to defeat Bush. It will not come without effort, though, and we are going to have to work on this for a generation.
