LA Times : Trapped in an Arena of Suffering (NOLA, post Katrina)
A truly heartbreaking read.

NEW ORLEANS — A 2-year-old girl slept in a pool of urine. Crack vials littered a restroom. Blood stained the walls next to vending machines smashed by teenagers.

The Louisiana Superdome, once a mighty testament to architecture and ingenuity, became the biggest storm shelter in New Orleans the day before Katrina's arrival Monday. About 16,000 people eventually settled in.

By Wednesday, it had degenerated into horror. A few hundred people were evacuated from the arena Wednesday, and buses will take away the vast majority of refugees today.

"We pee on the floor. We are like animals," said Taffany Smith, 25, as she cradled her 3-week-old son, Terry. In her right hand she carried a half-full bottle of formula provided by rescuers. Baby supplies are running low; one mother said she was given two diapers and told to scrape them off when they got dirty and use them again.

3. No we don't
We spend millions to devastate a foreign nation and rebuild it again. Then when one of our own states is torn apart by the worst natural disaster in history the federal government sits around on its ass for days,implements a slow and paltry rescue effort, denies access to others who offer to help--and who knows the prospects of getting them to rebuild.

2. Please Keep Writing to the Media to Report this Ongoing Genocide in detail
WHY ISN'T THE RED CROSS ALLOWED IN NEW ORLEANS? GENOCIDE !

Mr. Olbermann, Thank you for telling the truth about the voter fraud and the toxic soup that the people of New Orleans are stranded in, actually they are imprisoned and even the Red Cross is not allowed in to help nor can anyone leave. Why!!??

GENOCIDE! This is like Fallujah, Bush did not want The Red Cross, or the Red Crescent or the media or anyone witnessing the genocide.

Why are these POOR AND DYING people in New Orleans being held hostage?

~~~~~
Hurricane Katrina: Why is the Red Cross not in New Orleans?
Access to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.
~~~Please hold emergency meetings in Congress and find out why the Red Cross is not being allowed to save people's lives and why Bush turned down help from Canada humanitarian workers, they were ready to go, had everything ready on planes, then Bush told them the Canadian relief worker would not be allowed in New Orleans!!. WHY?? These people are being murdered by bush, why is Congress allowing it??

The Canadian Prime Minister was so angry that bush is letting massive numbers of people die that he was going to ask bush today why he refused both the Canadian workers AND THE UNITED NATIONS OFFERS OF ASSISTANCE!!

My email to CNN - they are beginning to get really angry at this genocide and starting to tell the truth!

http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form11.html?1

Why isn't the Red Cross being allowed into New Orleans? Why is the National Guard preventing them? This is genocide!! Just like Fallujah when the military would not allow The Red Cross, The Red Crescent or the media to enter until they had finished their door to door mass murder of anyone who did not die in the
illegal bombing including napalm and cluster bombs.

REPORT ON THIS GENOCIDE AND ASK ON THE PUBLIC AIRWAVES, WHY IS THE RED CROSS PREVENTED FROM ENTERING NEW ORLEANS TO HELP THE DYING PEOPLE?? BY OUR NATIONAL GUARD!! GENOCIDE!!! REPORT THE TRUTH!!!

Landrieu Presses Bush for Aide Coordinator

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Mary Landrieu called Friday for President Bush to appoint a cabinet-level official to direct the federal response to the devastation along the Gulf Coast caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Landrieu, a Louisiana Democrat, said she asked Bush during his tour of New Orleans on Friday to act within 24 hours to put a single official in charge of the overall relief effort who would report directly to him.

"The suffering has gone on long enough," she said. "Now is the time for action."

I HOPE THIS IS MORE THAN JUST WORDS. THESE PEOPLE WILL DIE, ARE DYING EVERY MINUTE OF DELAY, IF THEY DON'T GET HELP NOW!!

still haven't heard from my son, all I see is stories about the looters, let them loot, take care of the people who need help, what I want to know is how are these looters are getting in and out of the city with all this stuff?

I'm going down there to find my son, they are only taking people at the Dome who are registered for evacuation to Houston, TX. So does that mean they would leave my son who is probably dying of thirst by now, just standing there in that mess?

I'm hearing stories that no one is getting food or water, where is all the food that FEMA and the national guard brought in? What is going on down there? I sell on Ebay and I called a woman who ordered something from me, she said I could send it because she lives 60 miles east of New Orleans and there is no flooding there and she has power, why couldn't they move people who wanted to leave up there?

I could wire the money there to my son to come home. I'm going to have to go down there since I can't find out anything from here, its like they are holding these people hostage, reporters are coming in and out, there are roads that are open yet they are not taking anyone there and they aren't letting people in. I don't
understand any of this. - 9/1/05 8:25 AM

(ADDED TO EMAIL TO MARYLAND GOV. EHRLICH TO GET INVOLVED - CONTACT YOUR GOVERNOR USING CONGRESS.ORG STATE OFFICIALS:I heard that a few days ago some of this countries Governors got some food and water to the dying people of New Orleans. PLEASE GET INVOLVED ON BEHALF OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND
WE DO NOT WANT THESE PEOPLE TO DIE FROM BUSH GENOCIDE. GOVERNOR LETTERS ARE NOT PRINTED BY CONGRESS.ORG - WHY??)
