Globe and Mail: "30 years of Negro rule in this city"
A long, excellent survey piece on how "so many" people want the "new" New Orleans to be, um, whiter. The Globe is exposing this for all to see -- in particular, this passage taken from the middle of the piece:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20050917.wnewor0917/BNStory/International

... In rich white enclaves like Uptown, residents are wary of sounding racist. But with their deep business and family connections, they say they are determined to ensure the new city will be a very different than the old one, which for so long has been associated with crime, poor schools and corruption.

"Whatever you do, don't put people back in the city who are criminals and who are incapable of, or unwilling to, help themselves," said Mr. O'Dwyer, a volatile, white 57-year-old lawyer.

"What was once unacceptable in polite, respectable society has not only become commonplace over the past 30 years of Negro rule in this city, but it has become acceptable and I am not going to stand for it any more," said the fifth-generation New Orleans resident. "If we return to the same old, same old...I'm outta here."

3. A mid-morning Bloody Mary? Could he be Bush**'s successor?!
Ashton O'Dwyer clutches his cellphone at a wrought-iron table in his driveway as the latest news streams across a generator-powered television. Sipping a mid-morning Bloody Mary, ice clinking against the glass, the attorney watches as his posh district bounces back to life.

A racist pig AND a terminal drunk? Looks like the 'pukes may be jumping on the "O'Dwyer '08" bandwagon (then falling off it :-) )!

This was the same yuppie asshole who the Wall Street Journal reported had ice cubes in his highballs (highballs?!) while other New Orleanians across town were still clinging to the rooftops.

The first response to that read "Time for the French Revolution." The second one read:

4. So, why did all them white tourists flock down to NO to celebrate along
with them blacks and creoles during Mardi Gras? Why did they flock to them there transvestite bars that were all over the place? Do they blame that on the blacks too? And what about the fact that the government in LA has always been so dirty and crooked. I don't think they can blame that on the blacks. I've always seen white faces over the pictures of the governors and big shots down there.

What they are really saying is they don't want poor people there. And just because the largest number of poor were black, well there you go.

These white survivors down there are becoming as big an embarrassment as the current administration.

5. A white New Orleans won't be New Orleans
Fortunately, Bush screws everything up so badly that I doubt he can pull off his ethnic cleansing plan.

For the record, one person in the article said that some neighborhoods were so poor that the schools were bad and no good jobs were available. Notice how that works? Blame the people in poverty for creating the situation, not the situation for creating the poverty. During desegregation, those who could afford it sent their kids to private schools, and left the public schools to the poor students, mostly black. This allowed the schools to be underfunded and ignored, and that's one reason they are so bad. The plan for school vouchers would make this a reality everywhere vouchers were allowed. It's backdoor resegregation.

7. Help your people (Granny rant, look out!)
with job training, free rehab, child care, health clinics, business loans, housing grants AND A REASON TO LIVE

and it won't BE the "same old same old."

Granny rant coming....

You know what just kills me? All those fine Christian types (I can say this because I am a Christian) who whisper about initiative and laziness and those folks down there... you know... "those people.."

They imply that because they perceive these people as helpless that they are not worthy of assistance. Christianity is about MERCY! Let's say for arugment's sake that the 30K in the astrodome were the sorry-est dregs humanity ever produced. So THAT would mean we wouldn't help them? Mercy? Christianity? You have to EARN your right to water and a helping hand? What the hell does initiative have to do with GIVING DYING PEOPLE WATER?

Jesus Christ. And I am not taking the name in vain.

8. Gee, I just love this Christian statement:
don't put people back in the city who are criminals and who are incapable of, or unwilling to, help themselves.

Did you learn that at church, you racist bastard?
