Forty-six countries have had female prime ministers or presidents, including the Central African Republic, Portugal, Bolivia, Dominica, Iceland, Norway, Yugoslavia, Malta, Luthuania, France, Rwanda, Turkey, Haiti, Switzerland, Mongolia and Bulgaria. <snip>

Although I do really admire the Senator, I suspect nobody with brain wants to replace one political dynasty with another, and I myself wouldn't support her in the primaries.

There are a hundred million women in this country, and many are smart and talented. Why would anyone think we had only one real choice?

Even if you were right -- and of course you provide no evidence whatsoever -- I've never met a political "done deal" that folkscouldn't get "undone," if they really cared enough ...

You are right as well that we have a large pool of very talented women to choose from. How many have enough power/money to get in the club though, because after all it is an exclusive club to get into. Hillary has been working awfully hard to join it seems to me.

My daughter was telling me just yesterday that this subject came up in her sociology class. She has a very diverse class, with almost equal numbers of black/white/hispanic as well as male/female, and even a couple of Asian Indian and Arab students in the mix.

The question was whether the United States would have a black president or a female president first. The nearly unanimous opinion was that Americans will more readily accept a black male president over a female -- because gender prejudice is even stronger in this country than racial prejudice. I'm not certain that's true, but I thought it was an interesting reaction from the class.

She's a sophomore at community college and this class consists of mostly 19 to 20-year-olds, with a few in their mid 20s. They have a pretty diverse collection of viewpoints on things, but they were pretty united on this one.

We sit here at the end of the Age of Enlightenment, at the beginning of the next Age of Darkness, waving candles about trying to stave it off. Had the original Mr. Paine lived at such a time, he would have railed against it, but he also would have understood what was coming.

23. Just Want A GOOD President

As a former feminist (probably the first one in Seattle), I do not care anymore if it is a woman or a man. Just be intelligent, humane, hard working, diplomatic, politically savvy, command respect, and not a warmonger. Oh and DON'T be a corporate whore!

Frankly I have seen little difference between women and men when it comes to management. It was thought in the beginning of the feminist movement in the 70's that women would be more family friendly, manage better workplaces, yada, yada. But I found that women could be just as cold and clueless as men. I have had four good bosses in my 35 years of working for a paycheck and one of them was a woman ~ and I have had just as many women bosses as men.

There are a couple people of color I would like to see as my president, starting with John Conyers and perhaps Barak Obama....Conyers or Obama and Barbara Boxer or Maxine Waters would be good duos....

31. Well, not all women would be more empathetic

than Bush. Think of Condaleeza Rice (shopping for shoes while the hurricane hit) or Katherine Harris. However, I do feel there is a gender imbalance in our political system. Since women are half the population, our representation should be half.
