Condi Rice: Failing Upward

This commentary from TNR was written by Lawrence F. Kaplan .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This week's creation of a White House Iraq Stabilization Group, whose function, according to President Bush, will be "to coordinate efforts, interagency efforts," was unanimously interpreted by the press as a slap at Donald Rumsfeld. And for good reason. The defense department will be ceding a measure of control to the Iraq Stabilization group, which will consist of counterterrorism, economic development, political affairs, and communications sub-groups, all run by National Security Council (NSC) officials.

Still, this hardly qualifies as a ringing endorsement of Condoleezza Rice's tenure as national security adviser. In an attempt to downplay the significance of the bureaucratic shift, Rumsfeld admonished an interviewer that the memo establishing the Iraq Stabilization Group "says the NSC is going to do that which it is chartered to do." He's right: The media's infatuation with Rice notwithstanding, the very need to restate her formal duties in an interagency memo confirms that she has failed to perform the most basic functions of a national security adviser. And that, in turn, accounts for much of why America's occupation of Iraq appears to be coming apart at the seams.

1. Look like congress is going to want ans. from her
As of now she need not give them but I think even GOP does not like her with all this money and no one knowing where it goes. I do not think congress is going to let WH spend this type money and in fact congress can only do it. Can you see Stevens or Byrd give up the say on all this cash? Does anyone know what the h--- this Bush is doing?

2. The Peterless Principle.
"Rather than coordinate the positions of the State and Defense departments, Rice has been overpowered by them."

:nopity:

3. Of course her boss
(which is technically Bush although we all know who really runs the show) is the ultimate example of falling upward. At least Rice had some accomplishments to her name before she reached her ultimate level of incompetence. Not so for Bush. He has failed miserably at everything in his life.

7. Cartoons
Thanks! Glad you like it...I do two or three a week for my own site, and publish a mix of original politcal satire and the latest "real" news. I try to combine all the content to a particular theme in the news. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Bartcop usually uses one or two of my cartoons each week. My "site," NotBannedYet.US, is actually a section of my main site, with more illustrations, cartoons, some animation and a health care comic strip I do called "HOO Cares!" (HOO stands for "Health Optimization Organization). It is about a clinic bought up by a giant corporation.

I don't have an e-mail list yet, but if you bookmark the page, I publish new "issues" usually Monday, Wednesday, Friday -- but Tuesday and Thursday happens sometimes, too! Tell your friends!

8. Nicely done
but you made her look too pretty. She is nastiest woman when you put her face together with her ideology and incompetence....and she could eat corn on the cob through a chain link fence

10. Fried Rice with chopped chickenhawk, my favorite dish
Wonder how she likes it in the wok? That's the problem with bad policy, it contains the elements of its own destruction. Unfortunately a lot of other things also get destroyed along the way.

11. Gene Lyons had article about "Slimy Shrub"
always failing at everything he did, but he always fails upward. How true. Gene suggested that Slimy always quit when he was failing and strongly suggested that he should quit now except he has nowhere to go (except back to Crawford and we all know he won't go there-he hates it.)
