Why Did FEMA Re-Route Tons of Gulf Coast Ice to Maine?
Posted September 20th, 2005 at 9:40 am by Jon

<snip>In the coming days, the city (Portland Maine which is largest city near Bush home in Maine) is expecting 200 to 300 trucks filled with ice and water. For now, the ice and water will be kept at a cold storage warehouse in Portland. Portland Transportation Director, Jeff Monroe says he believes storage facilities South of here are full. That’s why it came to Portland. It’s unclear if or when the supplies will make it to the gulf coast.<snip>

FEMA spokesperson Kathy Cable explained:“It’s more economical to store them and be able to use them right away. When we need it, we need all of it and we need it now. It’s better to have it stored than to go out and buy it.”

This is questionable. Temperatures around New Orleans in September are generally in the 90’s, with humidity to match. Seems like somebody down there could use some ice at some point soon. You don’t have to be an efficiency expert to see that it won’t be too helpful to have the ice stored 1,500 miles away.

5. FEMA also blocked
The Red Cross (told them they were not allowed to feed survivors because "it might wncourage them to stay).

Animal rescue organizations.

Survivors from leaving.

FEMA laid siege to New Orleans and murdered at least 1,000 people.

7. Someone should prepare a timeline of water delivery centered
around the ice chase. It there was one person who didn't have enough water to drink or brush their teeth during the period that the truck was kept on the road at a high cost to the taxpayers...there should be hell to pay.

Imagine, paying for the ice, paying for the trucks, paying for the drivers, paying for the tolls, paying for the storage. They drove a huge 'U' on our dime because of the stupidity of a stupid presidency.

Their answer did not satisfy me. I believe they are destroying us. Plain and simple.

10. Her explanation makes no sense.
It is "economical" to pay trucking companies to drive down South, hang out for two weeks, then drive back up North to "store" the ice? What is this ice made of that it is worth that much expense to store? Assuming she is right and LA and MS had too much ice (which I doubt), wouldn't it be cheper to just leave it in the South? It seems to me it would be cheaper to GIVE IT AWAY to people in AZ or somewhere else where its very hot then to pay to keep driving it around and storing it. Or am I missing something? :banghead:
